So I sent my gf .05 btc to her btc address and she forgot that she had changed the denomination on her wallet to mbtc. she then attempted to send .005 btc to her pocket dice account and mistakenly sent 500 satoshis. This transaction is now stuck and wont confirm on the blockchain as it is a non-standard transaction and because the tx had sent the entire balance out 500 satoshi to pocket dice and the remainder back to the address that sent them the remaining coins cannot be spent. If anyone can help me figure out how to push this tx so the remaining coins can be spendable that would be appreciated! here is the tx on blockchain https://blockchain.info/tx/8b1f3b0b629acd1b3d5b00832b07b0ad02ff7871d15b6bc81991e26adabbca5c

What wallet is she using?

she's using blockchain.info's wallet. I read that double spending them is an option but I don't know how exactly to attempt something like that. I do have the private key for the addy that spent the coins so if I need to use another client to do it its not a problem, I just need a little guidance is all.

I don't think you can do it from blockchain.info, but if you imported the private key to another wallet like Electrum, you could do it from there. You just need to make the wallet forget about the unconfirmed transaction and then send the transaction again but without the dust output.

electrum.org appears offline currently, can you suggest another wallet that would suffice?

Strange that it is offline. Try using Bither.

Such transactions will confirm within 7 days I believe, this happened once to me and I asked the blockchain team and they said it has a very low priority and as you may know that the transaction in a block picked randomly, it could take a long time to confirm, if it doesn't confirm it will be sent back to ur addy.

No. That was the original intent, to double spend the transaction so that you can recover your coins faster. This second transaction should confirm faster, although the fee is a little low.

oh, I just used the default fee, I didn't think it needed to be increased. But it should still get confirmed soon right?

The transaction will confirm within 6 blocks which means 1 hours. Be patient and you will get your btc back and be able to spend them. Never spend less than 10k satoshi or u have a big risk on having a very slow conformation, so u cant spend all ur btc. I hope you gf and u learned it, and will forcome this next time. Regards, FruitsBasket

Thanks, and yeah it was purely a mistake on her part. She had switched the denomination on her wallet to mBTC and mistakenly tried to send .005 mbtc instead of .005 btc. Looks like its got some confirmations now tho so it should be all good now. Ty so much for the assistance!

Yes, sorry I can't think clear now, I just helped someone to get his 320$ wallet back and he gave me 20$ My mind is in the sky for a minute :p But to stay on topic, the OP will get his btc soon and be able to spend. There can't go anything wrong I guess. Goodluck!

Just an update, everything went perfectly, with the double spent coins. I can't thank you enough for helping me through that ordeal. Im noticing that the tx has since been removed from the blockchain.info tx history so I'm in the clear. I have since changed the denomination on her wallet back to the default setting of BTC to avoid this kind of mistake in the future and made sure she was fully aware of how this mistake could have been much more costly then simple having to wait a while until they could be spent again.
