Question: Would you apply for the marsone project?
You're kidding?  Of course I would.  I actually even fill the requirements so I WILL send an application form. - 5 (26.3%)
I'd love to but I do not fill all requirements. - 1 (5.3%)
Seems like a fun idea but it's too a big commitment for me to actually do it. - 3 (15.8%)
No I won't.  It seems way too dangerous and I'm too young to die. - 2 (10.5%)
No way.  Mars sucks.  It's just a big, cold rock with no water, no oxygen, nothing.  This whole thing is insane. - 8 (42.1%)

I was all pumped up reading up their selection process at http://mars-one.com/en/faq-en/21-faq-selection/251-do-i-qualify-to-apply; "I persevere, sure" and "my spirit is indomitable, just try and... wait, what is this here?"

Really? It kind of killed the moment and I gave up on it.

Astronaut: Hey, here's the transmission from Earth:
"ya know, we needed to save on costs so we send all of you we enough fuel only to go to mars, not for coming back
As we said on the requirements, there's always a good reason
Have a good day"

The whole idea is not to come back. Taking the resources with them to create a launch tower on Mars are astronomical, therefore this is a one way mission (until the economy on Mars supports their own space program).

That line does sound way too much like the army though. Good thing I am not interested anyway:

1) One way
2) Nothing interesting, Mars is boring

But explorers please go, I want to follow your endeavor from a distance Smiley

1. One-way mission. I better join Al-Qaeda suicide bomber team than go to cold planet to slowly starve to death alone.
2. Too much ping for internet. From 4 to 24 minutes average radio travel time will give me on average 780000 ping when connected to counter-strike server. Not to mention that Bitcoin blocks I mine on Mars will reach Earth after next block have been mined.

+1. Mars suck until there's some kind of faster transportation. It's like being exiled to somewhere remote without the means/chance to go anywhere else civilized.

Probably the improvements in spacecraft engineering might actually give possibility for two-way mission. Otherwise it is even worse than being sent to south pole.

And this is why Bitcoin is doomed to fail. The Bitcoin network cannot work in interplanetary scenarios. It will either fork or one side should stop mining and only synchro the blockchain with data beamed to them.

Quote
Donate to Mars One

Mars One is a not-for-profit organisation which directs all financial donations to the human mission to Mars. While the total mission will require billions of dollars, each contribution plays a significant role in the incremental stages at Mars One.

There should be no excuse on their part for not having a Bitcoin donation option on their website once Bitcoin is brought to their attention.
