Would a pair of these suffice for mining altcoin like ethereum or decred?

Only decred. 500-550Mh/s with one card.

Too low performance and too high power consumption to be profitable miners any more.

Even the 7xxx series are getting pretty marginal at best.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

My 6990 (basically 2 x 6950) is mining decred 2 x 800 Mh/s and earns a couple of DCR per day, even 58xx series is profitable in DCR.

7970 (=280x) is about the best card you can get for ETH mining. Street price about 140 €/$ and mines ~22MH, with todays prices ROI in 40 days.

I got 2x a HD6950 in my rig. Do you maybe know why cgminer is telling me they are hashing both with about 1200mh steady, and in every pooldashboard i check they are jumping up and down between 400 and 800?

Use --vectors 1 switch in your launch config, otherwise 5000 and 6000 series show doubble hashrate.

If you want you can try to flash those to 6970's, many of 6950's have locked shaders.

So it wasnt running 1200 mhz als cgminer says, its actually running half of that? Would the increase be big when i flash it?

Feel like walking on thin ice when talking about percents in this forum section...

1536 vs 1408 shaders so you can expect about 9% increase in hashrate. Is that BIG increase? I will leave it to you to decide. At least it's free.

Well, more hash is more coin Smiley So will check that website out. Thanks for the help man!
Been struggeling way to long with why cgminer was giving me the double hashrate than the pool does!

720MHs on DCR with my 6950 1GB with gpuclock @875
Memoryclock have no impact.

Will test with my 690 2GB unlocked ...
