I'm curious about this user:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=4755

Wondering if his account has been sold. He doesnt have anymore feedback since July 2015 and hes declining to use escrow.
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

By looking to his Trust feedback , he seem trusted .
Sometimes members with high trusted feedback refuse to use escrows for small transactions because they think it's a waste of time .

there's no sure way of knowing if the account have been sold or not without some proof (from admin (won't happen), original owner, buyer who got PM, etc.).

his received and sent trusts indicates that JWU42 almost never use escrow in his deals. also no password change in past month.

up to you to trust him or not. IMHO it's better to use escrow when you're not sure or find another user to trade with. better safe than sorry.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the perfect example of what not to do.

With all the account sales that go around here, I wouldn't be surprised if the guy's account was sold, although it is a bit unlikely. Insist to use escrow regardless of whoever you're trading with, even if it's theymos himself.

It is unfortunate that the selling of accounts has led to this...

Yes, the  user seems legit.
They won't usually scam, otherwise they may lose their entire trust ratings and end up with negative 50 instead of positive, also, now a staff member has certified that he is legit (so he probably is).

You could always search the forum's security log

This is now irrelevant as I am no longer pursuing a transaction with the OP

Appreciate the vouches - FWIW - this was via IRC (#bitcoin-otc) where I am identified by signing a message with my GPG key.

Yeah, I know this but I'm guilty of doing it too.  Guess I like to be risky sometimes, but I probably shouldn't be.

I don't know about that user, OP.  I think I saw the thread you started and if I recall the amount wasn't extremely high.  It's up to you, obviously but I'd chance it if there's no evidence of a sale and no password change, which others here have reported on.

Edit: Whoop, nevermind.  ^^^^

I'm curious about this user:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=4755

Wondering if his account has been sold. He doesnt have anymore feedback since July 2015 and hes declining to use escrow.

Well... if you'd asked the user JWU42 to sign a message with their wallet 1JWU42QLGFESoQCC4iPzUDTRiC9nx5bi95 that they have on their profile page quoted in 2013 http://archive.is/1xeTj you'd save all of us some time out of our day - unless you're going to suggest the wallet was sold too?

   JWU42   250   0.0007

I'll fill this one, if i'm right that i make this 0.175 BTC

Confirmed - PM me an addy please.

BTC payment of .175 BTC to 1JWU42QLGFESoQCC4iPzUDTRiC9nx5bi95 please.

PROOF = http://blockexplorer.bytecoin.in/address/8JJGRqqJsm9uXp15qLK7ixPH3LFUP7787J

PM'd the addy to you, and will send the .175 to the address above in a short while ( just getting wallet open )... trusting you, seeing you are a long time poster here.

Thanks - ignore PM (asking you to send first)  Wink

Will send ASAP after receipt.

Just sent, on its way....

Rec'd - txid above - thanks!

250 now showing unconfirmed in my wallet. Pleasure doing business ! Grin

People who sell accounts higher up tend to be more cautious and a lot of account sales sell private keys as well as the account (just search "account with priv/private key" in the auctions and digital goods section). You can't rule anything out when it comes to being safe.

(Also: something to note, someone like master-P would have easily given a signed message, but he ran off with the funds. There was no escrow because he was the escrow. Smiley )

Anyways, good thing the whole situation was just a false alarm.

Yes, I was. (Sorry to JWU, but like he said:)

No need to apologize - this was prudent

I'm generally a cautious guy, so I tend to be suspicious of a lot of things.

Agreed we can lock this - but up to the OP

The root cause of the problem is the selling of accounts.  Why this is tolerated is beyond me  Roll Eyes
