BTC  is the awesome bitcoin.

What I am not sure is what are all the other coins?
LTC, NMC, PPC, TRC etc..

If coins they are then whats the point if we have BTC?
Tried to find some documentation around with not much luck.

They're not as popular as Bitcoin, but they all have some sort of difference.

Those are typically coins that either try to fix something about Bitcoin that isn't broken or add something which no one wants. I've yet to see an alt coin that adds value on top of Bitcoin.

I'm all for their creation and existence though. Competition is useful.

Probably a good way to find bugs, as well.

And by developing them, people are gaining competence that is also useful within bitcoin.  Just creating a trivial new blockchain is a very interesting exercise.

You don't want an alt currency to become too successful, as that will dilute bitcoin resulting in both being stunted.

Those are all variations of BTC. Each one is a little bit different than the other. The main point of each one is to improve on BitCoin. Most aren't popular, and are all kinda failures.
