The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

I personally wouldn't change it if I could , name is not perfect but It's not bad either . But like some people pointed already , there is no "coin" in Bitcoin .
But I suppose if bitcoin will screw fiat over , Physical coins should be created in the future .
The name coin is given to it because it has a logo/monogram/virtual design like a coin.
And I like the name coin with it, and it is the word coin which convinced the newbies and other people to understand it as a normal currency.

Because bitcoin is such a good name it is not such a good idea to change it as it has been there for so long and people have become used to the name and it will take a long time for people to adapt to a new name

bitvalue or bitcurrency

However neither of those roll off the tongue easily.

The bit part I believe is important, it signifies that it is digital in nature.

The coin part however I also do not like.

A coin has a fixed value that does not change. A quarter was worth 25 cents in 1967 and is worth 25 cents today, and is re-used. Possession of the quarter gives you the right to spend it.

Bitcoin really has no equivalent.

Possession of the private key associated with an address gives you the right to spend any value sent to that address but it has no inherent value itself and is typically never re-used.

I hereby reserve the right to sometimes be wrong
