I am going to buy an asic capable of 60GH/s I have never bitcoin'd before. What's the fastest way to pay off my hardware investment?
Join a pool or go at it alone??
If I should join a pool, what's the highest payout assuming my specs?
Power is free for me and I should be up 24/7

Where are you getting your ASIC from?
For 60Gh/s, I would say pool it. But it really doesn't matter in the long term. The average income would be the same, but with a pool, variance would be much less a factor. Would you prefer a large check periodically, or a smaller check regularly?

Good luck.. If those ASICs ever come 60GH wont be worth anything. So go for a pool.

Obviously a misconception on his part. One way or another he is paying for power. Whether or not he is able to calculate the cost for his power is another matter.

I would say it depends on when you get it. Once you receive your product, determine how long it would take to mine a complete block. If that is low enough to you then don't do a pool.
If you had your 60GH device right now.. then definitely self mine. You would get through the blocks quickly enough.
If you receive your device 6 months from now when everyone and their grandmother has an asic device? You will probably want to join a pool.

What is everyones opinion on slush's pool? Is he trustworthy? Is being on a non hop-proof pool wise if you don't "hop" yourself?

Obviously a misconception on his part. One way or another he is paying for power. Whether or not he is able to calculate the cost for his power is another matter. I am guessing that he means that his power consumption has no effect on his bill, in which case the additional power used for mining would essentially be "free" assuming that he needs some electricity regardless, in which case it is a sunk cost.

He doesn't have to pay for electricity, someone else does. hahaha... this did cross my mind. although I tried to be positive and thought that maybe he is running the ring on alternative energy of some sort (e.g. windmill , water turbine, solar, nuclear, etc)
