I was thinking why a game where you can play based on skills doesn't exist yet, similar to 8 Ball Pool but with BTC (currently available at iTunes and Play stores). What do you guys think? Would you play a game of skill and bet on it? I'm not sure why games didn't catch up with BTC, many could become pro gamers, just as there are pro poker players.

This is a good idea but since its played on the computer, people can build bots and scripts and cheating might be possible. Like when player 1 breaks, he can make a script to get all the balls in consecutively.

Yap, that's the main problem on skill-based game like 8 pool or chess. We will not able to verify whether we are playing against real human or bot unless there is a great feature to avoid bots.

Nah man! people will bot the shit out of the skill based games, take chess for ex. even when there is no money involved people cheat to win worthless games, when bitcoin gets involved, they'll go to any level to cheat and win.

I see, is there not a way to combat the bots then? Why Poker can get away then? I know it's not exclusively based on skill since there's plenty of luck involved, but still.

Yes its what we need in bitcoin world, 8 ball pool is very pool if you look at the numbers on miniclip. There is software which helps people however the software isn't really a game changer as in you can still beat people who use it. I think more devs should seriously consider this.

Poker involves some dealer in which it ensures that there are no cheating involved. Also, you are given very limited cards, so even a bot itself couldn't cheat on it or guess what the other players' cards are. In 8 ball pool, it might be fun, but then again you can easily create scripts to beat the game and win.

Many times this kind topic discussed here, and noone implemented this bitcoin 8 pool gaming idea. Yeah because the game like this usually have less enthusiast once the game launched officially.

What about some sort of captcha system at every turn? I'm just brainstorming here, I know if a script/bot is developed it can bypass any sort of security but maybe there's still a way to avoid it.

If the game plays as sexy as miniclip then it will be a winner, if it plays bad then it wont be popular. The bot scripts is a different issue so there are 2 challenges here.

I'm not reducing it to just a pool game, it can be any video game or similar. Perhaps with a strong registration you can open an account and be responsible if you get caught up cheating?

Game with betting, you do know how competitive people get even without the money element right? Heard of bots? Scripts? Now its no surprise why no one has made a skill based game, they will be looted the day they start up. And the skill games doesn't give you the ability to verify the 'physics' of a game, which is more or less the part of the game that makes you either win or lose

Probably would be a great idea since it is very simple to play a (online) pool game. It is easier than said because it's like a pain in the ass to make bot-proof skill-based game.

I guess as it doesn't exists it can't be done. But if you take my example of an exact replica of 8 Pool Game with BTC and a similar amount of players it will be a gold mine! The app or site could charge a fee for entering the tournaments or per game depending on the option selected. There would still be store items as in app purchases but all done via BTC.

I never said that it can't be done. An exact replica of 8 Ball Pool is probably the worst idea, IMO. There is like shit ton of cheat/hack for that game. (ex. unlimited guideline hack) I saw a friend of mine use this cheat/hack, lol.

It could be anything basically since many games are based on pure skill. But now I can see how security can be a problem. It will never happer soon but I was envisioning a Twitch like platform where all gamers can bet against each other on different games.

After some time getiing up a bit in the ranks I started noticing players making a lot of insane shots, no everyone but about 1 in 10 players were insane. I got to looking around and found some videos of a cheat they were using that showed the exact angle and velocity to hit a certain shot, which was the reason for all the crazy shots. The way no money on the line and there were still people cheating. I don't think a game like this would work very well, I think cheaters would take over and just kill the whole game.

That's a good story, well for me it's clear now why a game like this doesn't exists but I only named it as an example, is there any other game based on skills that can be used? Perhaps even a more complex one like FPS, racing games, etc. I guess there's no way to bypass a script or bot doing its thing.

Sadly there is no way of fighting bots and Poker is not entirely skilled based, there's an element of luck involved and there's also something which humans seem to do better than computer programs, which is called bluffing, this is why Poker bots mostly lose in front of human players. Pool/Chess/video-games on the other other hand are completely skilled based, no luck/bluffing required, which is why they're not good for gambling because even the best of the players have trouble defeating engines.

Very true. It is a very serious problem and most of all in the game-based skills. I am also very unhappy and doesn't like if the players use cheat or bot in game-based skills. And I hope that if this can be played in BTC hope there's a great feature to prevent the occurrence of fraud.
