Not something all people can do you have to be a great talker and people need to get inspired there are some story's about some big sects in past and future. Also some big horror story's. Well that's a good question! It all depends about where you live.
In some countries there is still a mandatory tax for religions so you just have to be officially recognized by the state.
Otherwise the problem is to be able to be recognized as a religion and not a sect. And to be honest I don't know the official difference :/

Just do whatever you want but do it consistently, never change a single thing in the way you are doing this, never change the way you are. And when asked "Why are you doing this?" say "God told me so". Spread the information about what you are doing through internet so millions can see it and you'll get followers, I'm sure.

Creating your own religion would be easy, just write some stuff down in order to opress people/genders/age groups you dont like, add some sort of heaven and hell concept and write down how you want everybody to live their lives.
Since you're on a bitcoin forum, create a vanityaddres like 1IAmYourOnlyGodPayMe9999999 and make a tax of 25% mandatory.
See if your country gives tax breaks to religions

That depends. If in your country you can apply for a tax relief if you make donations to a church, and such donations are tax free then you can turn up with any sort of bullshit, just make every believer a priest who can accept donations .

If the tax situation isn't that bright, then you really have to find out something what can comfort people, but distant, misty, difficult to understand and also difficult to prove or disprove. Also good if you can define an enemy, but don't make it too specific otherwise you can run out of enemies, or if you make a wrong choice you can get your ass kicked by that other group. Promises. Promises are important. As if you aren't after tax relief, most of your believers will be a bunch of losers, so you really have to promise something what they want, but can't achieve in this world (e.g. 72 virgins seems to be a popular reward). You also have to position your religion on the market. Unless you have some plantations or mines you don't really want to go for the poorest. So target your ideology, promises and rewards for the upper working and mid classes.
