Hello I recently purchased some coins from someone on the forum, its been almost 24 hours and the coins have not shown up in my wallet.

My client is out of date, could this be the problem? If i update my client will the coins be lost somewhere in the internet forever? If someone knows what the problem may be please help

The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

The first step would be to verify that the sender actually put a transaction out onto the bitcoin network sending the bitcoins to the correct address.

Based this other post of yours in another discussion:

Purchased 5.62 coins from ThaddeusB last night around 12:30AM central . . .

It looks like the address that ThaddeusB sent the coins to was:

12A4Zz28AZKptJLLYkcbwrvNy6YbicSv8Z

I assume you are using hte Bitcoin-Qt client?  Can you confirm that this address shows up in the "Receive Coins" tab of the client?

If so, then odds are REALLY GOOD that you'll be able to get your coins as long as you are careful.

Updating the client should not cause you to lose the bitcoins, but to be extra safe, it would be a good idea to make a backup copy of your wallet.dat file before updating.  The location of the wallet.dat file on your computer will depend on the Operating System you are running.  Are you using an Apple computer?  Windows?  Linux?

you could always check your wallet address information from blockchain.info
