Few days back somebody was asking for some embeddable bitcoin charts (or so I dreamed, I can't seem to find the thread), so I've made a little something on bitcoinity.

Details here: http://bitcoinity.org/markets/webmasters

It looks something like this:

I'm happy to implement any interesting ideas and improvements. If you have bigger website and you want to make sure nothing will change after including it, I suggest waiting few days since I just wrote it.

Currently it's based on mtgox, I can make exchange param or maybe display something weighted.

PS. Due to health problems I may be responding very slowly, but I read all feedback carefully.

Thanks.

I've added CAD, but since it only takes into account trades in given currency, for CAD 24h chart is empty :/ I may add some cheating option, that is actually displaying USD price chart, only multiplied by currency ratio, but that's cheating mostly because currency ratio is not constant and will change during displayed period.

Also, I was thinking about adding https, because of course if your site is over https, and you include non-https image, icon in the browser is no more green, which sucks. I tried startssl, but they told me that because it's related to finance/commercial stuff they won't give free cert for this domain (I have some for other domains, they work great). Explaining that it's small non profit site with no ads didn't help. So for now I don't know, I don't feel like spending 50$ just for this, but I'll think about it.

I bought SSL cert (if anybody feels like it: 1AdaWz54Tokt2LtvuGf296woSgCjrzZuXy), so you can now also safely add them on https sites (this forum thread being an example).

Added all available currencies and exchanges.

I'm wondering if maybe I should put an exchange name on these images (kinda hard to fit)...

These charts are awesome!

Suggestions:
  • Add a variable for increase in currency amount over the time period. IE. I could enter 5 and if the increase was 100% it would show 10. I've seen this on ETF charts and it helps non-investors grasp the meaning.
  • Add up to 12 months of data and YTD options.

Even without the above features, very cool!

Hi , I'd welcome a chart with log scale for the fiat price.
Especially for the longer time lines , 6 months and longer.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I really like the charts. Grin

I am thinking of making a Windows 7 gadget for displaying them on the desktop. A few questions regarding this:

1) Is there any interest in this at all? After all, Windows 7 gadgets have been discontinued by Microsoft for security reasons. Still, a lot of people continue using them, myself included. The MyBitcoins gadget is quite popular, but it only shows the price, not the chart.

2) Are there any legal issues involved? The charts already bear the address of the site providing them but I'd like an explicit permission for using them not exactly for the purpose for which they were intended (as charts to put on Web pages).

3) How often do the charts refresh? I am thinking of refreshing them once a minute but if the site refreshes them less often than that, I'd like to know, so that I use a longer interval too, in order not to cause unnecessary traffic to the site.

4) Anything else I might have missed?
