We have noticed that f2pool has provided an option to individual miners to express what they are thinking about on the 2MB debate.

@JihanWu Thats a shame. I hope at least Bitmain will honor the agreement we all signed less than a week ago

@TheBlueMatt @JihanWu Maybe he meant to sign only as an 'individual'.  These things happen.

What now? They don't seem to be running a modified client. I guess they're still on Core...

What kind of system are they employing in order to ask the miners for their opinion? Different stratums like one pool did earlier? Maybe they're just polling their users...

They run Core, it's just a voting mechanism and apparently not even a good one.

We can only judge on their voting system efficiency if we know how does it work. Didn't find answers neither on twitter, neither on their page. Is it something miners activate on their personal logins in the pool's page?

Giving individual hashers a voice is admirable, but doing so via false nVersion settings is dangerous; use the coinbase instead.

False nVersion settings risk accidentally triggering safety warnings, or worse, triggering forks; nVersion is consensus-critical.

If it is the same way as miners include opinion on blocksizes in their mined blocks (often 8MB and so on), then these opinions are worth nothing when they dont follow their interests with real voting in block version numbers.

If they use twitter and they saying this in public, they do not have anything to hide, or was that just a slip up? I guess they have to use some sort of platform to discuss

the different implementations. If a bunch of people can have closed invite-only "Round table" sessions behind closed doors, they can have their own secret discussions and

votes too. If anyone wants to challenge them, they would need to accumulate the same hash power.... and that cost a lot of money.

You called it:

We are currently under DDoS attack.

Not 'massive' though, already ended.

We are currently under DDoS counterattack.

Fixed it for you.

Mess with the honey badger and you get the claws.  Plus the teeth.

While a PoW hash reset could be used in the event of a mining attack, don't kid yourself - no one is seriously pushing for a beyond-controversial PoW change at this time.

No one except Guy Corem and his co-signers at https://medium.com/@vcorem/lesson-learned-from-the-classic-coup-attempt-or-why-core-needs-to-prepare-a-gpu-only-pow-6a9afe18e4b0

Resetting to SHA3 just weakens bitcoin hashing power temporarily and then maybe permanently as miners have to discount their profits by taking into the possibility that the mining community will make their investments worth zero at any time.

Fork off.
