On what site? Can you provide a transaction id for the deposit? There are probably no legal consequences of spending the Bitcoin, but just to be safe, you should probably contact the site's support.

if someone just magically sent you 4.19, im pretty sure u are not in the fault, so dont worry about legal consequences, however if i were you i would wait for someone to contact you to tell you if it was a mistake or not.

Who are "they"? Again, you should probably talk to support for the site.

Good luck!

Withdraw it now.

Put it into a btc address that you alone control.

Leave it sit still and wait for contact.

Do not spend it and do not give it back to anyone with out a lot of proof they sent it to you.

There are no legal consequences but it would be good if you could return the coins, can you post the transaction ID so we can have a closer look please?

Wow, so much bad advice in this thread. All from sig spammers, so that's to be expected. The legal consequences of spending coins which do not belong to you is that you're stealing them. If the owner of the coins can track you down (which is likely, since they can probably determine which exchange the coins were sent to, and the exchange will reveal your identity in response to a court order), you may be arrested and/or sued. You must contact the exchange and inform them of the error, so that they may attempt to identify the sender and return the coins. Depending on your jurisdiction you may be allowed to keep the coins if the owner cannot be found, but only if you have made a good faith effort to find them.

No. Don't withdraw it. Contact the support and say it is mistakenly sended to you in that way you will help them to solve the issue if someone reports that they have missing bitcoins..

The right thing to do, would be to find, who the sender was (although it will be hard), and return it to him. From the looks of it, it has been sent from a 3rd party address so that complicates it. If that site, has forum, try to open a thread and look for the owner and ask for proof, therefor you could somehow have a good chance of finding him. Also open a thread here on forums (you never know, you might find him here instead). Another thing you could do is to ask from blockchain support and see if they could track down those who sent on that date, the exact amount you got (sometimes they've surprised me with the help they provided me even though, it was out of their responsibility).

what you suggest is correct, if you contact the exchange and if are not able to find the user who sent they may also try to block you address and keep the bitcoin with them, so it is better to withdraw it in your other wallet address and then try to contact your wallet support and before giving it back get enough proof because anyone come and tell that the bitcoins belong to him with fake proofs .

I'm not really sure it is a real situation or just a fake situation, Any proofs on what you are saying here?
If it is real, so you can send it back to the btc address that is used to send the 4.19btc on your account or make an announcement in order to find the sender (need to prove by signed message though)

The coins belong to him from the moment he received them.

and the exchange will reveal your identity

That is,as long as OP stores his real identity in the exchange.

you may be arrested and/or sued.

Not if OP doesn't lives in the same country as the sender.

OP,if you don't live in the US and if your details are not tied to your BTC adress somehow, spend the BitCoins.

Which site is it OP and show some proofs. This looks like just a troll attempt to me.

If it isn't then just contact the site, tell them someone else has deposited bitcoins to your account and let them decide what to do with it. Maybe its just a glitch.

It may also be that the site itself is a scam and when you try to withdraw, you'll be asked to deposit a sum.

the last sentence might be possible maybe the site is just trying to scam OP if he attempt to withdraw will going to ask for deposit and if faith happen instead of getting the amount of btc OP might be losing btc just because of the intent mistake, but moving back to the thread, OP should contact the support group if OP have good intention.

just post a topic here in bitcoin discussion and on Reddit/r/bitcoin saying "Bitcoin Address 1...... has sent me 4.19BTC by mistake, if you are the owner of said address provide a signed message from it and i will send you back your 4.19BTC for a reward."

and wait for a week tops and then spend the coins, nobody can claim anything after that.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.
