hello
seems since I sent a $180 BTC payment yesterday nothing is getting confirmed at all

now I have had a mistake in my fee settings
had it set to by KP when it should have been set to "total"

but even so I have other transactions from before which worked just fine

1st tx have very low transaction fee compared to its size.
2nd tx same as 1st.
3rd tx have high priority but spends an input from 2nd tx. you'll have to wait for the 2nd to get confirmed first.
4th tx have high priority but spends an input from this unconfirmed tx. that tx spends an input from the 2nd tx.
5th tx have high priority spends an input from 4th tx.

in short, the source of your problem is the 1st and 2nd txes. and the rest of those transaction need to wait for the other unconfirmed txes starting from the 2nd to confirm.

if I understand you correctly your saying the early ones will go threw it will just take time
and the later ones wont go threw untill the earlier ones do ?

what kinda system should I be using to determine a good fee to set anyway

Not looking good for you.

You can follow network's state here:

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

https://chain.btc.com/en/

https://tradeblock.com/bitcoin

People making transactions now will pay a bigger fee than previous transactions and go ahead of all the suckers that've been waiting for long hours.

yes.
edit:

wait. no about the earlier ones (1st and 2nd.). they can go through, sure. but they have a higher chance of not going through at all and returns to the sender's wallet (that is if all node stops re-broadcasting them.).

I'd recommend to use this site to determine how many fee you should use. the numbers on the left [x-xx] is the fee per byte, and the meters are the number of current tx waiting in the mempool that used [x-xx] fee and the total tx since 24 hours (confirmed and unconfirmed.). and the delay and time is an estimation of how long a tx with [x-xx] fee will take to confirm.
in short, choose the one with 0-10 delay and 0-240 time. the lower the better (if you can afford it.)

27K unconfirmed transactions and growing
that don't look good

is there no place you can just put in how much you want to send and be told how much fee to set to get it confirmed quickly ?
I have no idea how to judge that chart

bitcoin core/qt and electrum allows you to set the fee per KB (other wallet may have this feature too.). so if you set them to 0.0002 per kb and send a 512 byte tx the wallet will automatically set the fee to 0.0001.

and it looks like you're using a wallet that does this. only with .0001 per kb fee. not good enough when the mempool is flooding.

yea I use the BC core
had it set to per Kb and 0.0001
the finall result was about 1/25 of the suggested 0.0001
tried one at 0.001 and still didn't get the result I was looking for
then I realized I could set it to "total" and force it to be 0.0001 result

but now im worried that 0.0001 may not be enough to larger sends
evan at 0.0001 that is only about $0.04 per transaction
im tempted to set it to about 0.0004 "total" and just leave it
still only gona be $0.16

did you remove the tx from your core? if not then that may be why those tx has not returned to your wallet. core automatically re-broadcast your unconfirmed transaction so your transactions will never be returned to your wallet.

to delete unconfirmed txes from your wallet, do this.

ok I did that got it all back instantly
then resent $142 BTC to a guy
trans ID  5f085648578180c21c1ac7b4507c75a57111478e85cdee75d02372d4d237fd32
gave the BTC Fee $0.50 to make it (High Priority)
thought I was doing really well

but it's been nearly an hour and no confirmations
and when I look at the transaction it says
((Warning! this transaction is a double spend. You should be extremely careful when trusting any transactions to/from this sender))

what are they talking about ?
this is starting to really piss me off
whats it gona take to get this guy paid ?

first. blockchain.info have their own version of priority calculation. and it sucks so don't rely on it.

be patient. your tx shouldn't take any longer than 10 blocks to confirm (that's between 10 to 300 minutes.).

and yes they're treated as double spend because you broadcasted a tx with same inputs as this one. a node that doesn't have the old tx received new tx and relayed it to blockchain which treated the new tx as double spend because they still have the old tx in their mempool.

Fee was even priority (0.001) Wink

a tx with same inputs
how dose that happen ?
is this because I removed some un confirmed transactions ?
is this likely to happen again and again untill I have the same number of transactions I had before I removed the unconfirmed ?
hope not cause that would mean the next 4-6 sends I make will have this same warning on them

Yes.  That is why this happened.

is this likely to happen again and again untill I have the same number of transactions I had before I removed the unconfirmed ?

It is likely to continue to happen until all the outputs that were spent in the removed transactions have been spent again.

hope not cause that would mean the next 4-6 sends I make will have this same warning on them

So what?  That warning is useless.  It doesn't mean anything is wrong or that anything bad is happening.
