I sent 2 transactions about 5 hours ago and they are still unconfirmed.  Here is the first one:

Status: 0/unconfirmed
Date: 2/29/2016 12:04
To: 1C82ABYFHd1jZ3a4PjyJLWaRDrSUrtLPfJ
Debit: -0.36956925 BTC
Transaction fee: -0.00001130 BTC
Net amount: -0.36958055 BTC
Transaction ID: defed2b118210319016bd34a3303dfd77d66dca2207ed1933b20f8a186e16130-000

and here is the second:

Status: 0/unconfirmed
Date: 2/29/2016 12:06
To: 1C82ABYFHd1jZ3a4PjyJLWaRDrSUrtLPfJ
Debit: -0.02610243 BTC
Transaction fee: -0.00000960 BTC
Net amount: -0.02611203 BTC
Transaction ID: 5b0ebca1f3f98ba63c1b370ca3bbb2cc499bc1686b1b5fd45eee69934366122d-000

One thing strange that happened is the transactions originally app appeared on my Bitcoin android wallet as unconfirmed transactions (where I sent the coins), but they disappeared after 2 hours.  Is there anything I can do to get the coins back or am I SOL?

Your second transaction depends on the first one so it cannot be confirmed until the first is. The first transaction has a fairly low fee. Also there appears to be a lot of unconfirmed transactions so that is causing a backlog.

both transaction have very low fees. plus the second tx spends an input from the first one so it won't get confirmed before the first tx. plus the mempool is flooding like crazy... so your tx might not get confirmed at all.

Is there anything I can do to get the coins back or am I SOL?

you can wait for the mempool to drop your tx. it'll get returned to your wallet then. probably will take two to three days.

Well, both transactions have really low fees. You should have sent the BTC with recommended fees.

Hey,

This problem I also have experienced myself. U have paid too less fee over the first transaction and because of that the second transactions also doesn't confirm. Or the btc will be returned to u, or the transaction will go through, but it could take up to seven days.

Good luck, and keep us updated!

Sorry you are not the only one right now. Bottleneck and people are actually paying higer fees to try to get their tx confirmed. I read that guaranteed fees to deliver a tx are 0.0044 BTC at this moment.

We are unfortunatly going to have to wait it out my friend.

that's a ridiculously high fee for ordinary transaction with normal size. 50 satoshi per byte or around 0.0005BTC per KB should be enough to get all transaction below 1KB confirmed very fast. 20~ spb is good enough.

Obviously it is more than enough, but the circumstances are unique right now. You can see some tx with high fees that are still not going thru. Some people are getting lucky and some are not.

no I'm not seeing them. I haven't seen anyone complaining about their 50spb fee tx not going through. and I can't find any either. there's a thread about that FUD article here if you're interested.
(if you're going to reply to this post, reply there. I quoted my post on the first page.)

We cant tell you how long it will take, but the fee it paid is pretty low with 12 satoshi per byte. Core currently suggests 18 satoshi per byte for a 25 block (or longer) waiting time and 44 sat/byte for the next block.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

I am sorry to say, but all you can do is wait.
Today my transaction confirmation took multiple hours, which is very slowely.
On your next transaction, put a little more fee, that will solve it I guess.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. One more thing, in that case I am receiving the amount so I don't have control of the fee..Is there anything I can do in that case?

Then u should ask the sender if he wants to put a higher fee on the transaction so that it willget confirmed quickly.
Or u kust wait with withdrawing your btc and wait till this is over.

FYI- running "C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe -zapwallettxes" (to clear the unconfirmed transactions) and them resubmitting them to the same wallet address with a higher transaction fee resolved this issue for me.

that's the best fee needed to get a tx confirmed in the next block. 41~50 is good enough and can get the tx in the next block or two. 31~40 next 3-4 blocks, etc.

but then again paying 10 satoshi higher per byte shouldn't be to costly.

These are different estimates, I never had any problems with those given by my nodes. I dont think 44 sat/byte or 60 sat/byte will make a big different. 12 or 18 respectively wont either.
