Hi.
I have BTC in a 2 factor identity enabled wallet. I have forgotten the password, so attempted to restore from the seed. I have done this, but the balance on BTC does not transfer, only a residual amount from the original default wallet i'd forgotten about. Is there a solution to this?
According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Is it possible it hasn't synced completely yet? You'd see the balance of old transactions as it is receiving the block headers.
Is it still transferring from servers?

only a residual amount from the original default wallet i'd forgotten about.

is the original default wallet the same as the wallet you're trying to restore?
my guess is you entered the wrong seed.

Thanks for the responses. I have only ever had 1 seed. Or so i recall. I have been depositing BTC into a wallet created with this seed but secured with the 2 factor ID. When i press the wallet tab the drop down menu has SEED in a light grey colour that is not clickable. I'm stumped...

I have the same problem.
I have my seed saved, but forgot my password so i can send payments.
Tried all my casual passwords, but none of them is working. Allthough i paid with Electrum just a few days ago...
When i click on File > New/Restore i have to choose a new wallet name.
Then I click on "Restore a wallet or import keys" i enter my seed and a new password

But when this is done i have no money in this new wallet and the addresses are all different.
Why can't i just choose Restore "Wallet name" from the beginning, instead of creating a new name and then click restore with seed, when this obviously is not working.... Or have i done something wrong??

Best Regards and hoping for a good answer here...

You have to give another name to the wallet you're restoring because the folder already contains a default_wallet file, which is why electrum needs you to set a new name for the second wallet. The steps you're performing are correct but if like you say the addresses are different, then it is quite possible that you're entering a wrong or a different wallet's seed. Did you had 2fa enabled as well?
