Quick question: Is it normal for an S7 to run hotter (~8C) than an S5, given the same operating environment?

Wow. I've never heard of this. Are you using S7 now? I am seriously planning on getting one. Is this true?

Can't really say. In one mining area I have 8x s5's running between mid-50's up to 63C with most in high 50's and right underneath them are 6x s7's running 52 up to 65 mostly around the same high 50's.

Varies model to model. The newer ones have less chips. They run a bit hotter and at freq 700. As long as it is under 65 you should be okay.

Yes, I would call this normal. The S5 uses ~600 watts, the S7 uses ~1200-1400watts. Thats twice the heat output from a same size miner. The S7 is then going to be hotter, given the same input/ambient temperature

I know this sounds funny, but since it's waterproof, can we just wet it to get the temperature down.

about the only wetting you could do is to submerge it into mineral oil, and then leave it there forever. the S7 is not watertight as it has 2 fans on either side to move air through the unit to cool it. to cool the s7 you need to remove the heat it produces and provide a cooler intake charge.
