Are there any legit sites out there that do a lottery?  I am sort of grabbing this idea from freebitco.in.  They have a weekly lottery you can participate in and win some good amount of money.

I also wouldn't mind starting one myself but I would like to know what people think of this, and if they would participate or anything

Big lottery with small amount tickets so all people can participate. Also make the house share not to high also try to make it so fairly possible.

Crypto-Games.net got one. Draws are twice a week, ticket prizes aren't high, but pots get decent every now and then.

So are you thinking, like a buy in of .001 and say we got 1,000 people to join, give away the 1BTC, or maybe the house takes a 1% or something, so they would take .01?  Is that what you are getting at?

I think a lot of casinos have some sort of in-built lottery system where if you are registered you may win extra stuff randomly.. but I don't know any way to do lottery in the traditional way. I think it would be cool if someone did something that works the same as "normal lottery" (you buy some ticket and then you wait for the day the prizes are announced).

Some very cool ideas out there.  My idea is something similar to like a powerball drawing.  It would be very hard to do, but I would love to say like 3-4 nights a week we have a live drawing.  Just like the real lottery, if no one wins, the jackpot would be carried over to the next one until someone won it.

This would obviously take a lot of time and trusted escrow would be needed but I think it would be a cool idea to see.  Thoughts?

If you don't lottery means don't think that site is scam. One should be very very lucky to win a lottery. If you check, there winning history some people won a lottery just with few lotteries. But, I don't how to check the site fairness. Just try with small amount, if your lucky than you will win it but don't waste money to chase winning.

yabtcl.com is another lottery site, you can play from faucet and as well as depositing and buying tickets. I tried it once but didn't win anything and then stopped.

bettingblocks.com can be considered a lottery too, the only difference is, instead of picking numbers you're picking miners and they have huge rewards, especially the blocks with 777 at the end. And they're the fairest one, since they can't change the outcome.

As far as making a lottery site is concerned, you can try but I haven't seen keen interest for it amongst Bitcoin gamblers.

There's pevpot.com, which is a lottery with a positive house edge, which I find is a cool idea.

Most bitcoin gamblers aren't interested in lotteries; that's why there aren't many lottery sites.

EDIT: pevpot seems to currently have an internal server error, hope this gets fixed soon.

I started Brafflr.com which is BTC Provably Fair Raffle. In my case I wanted a site that has a winner and does not depend on chosen numbers but on a slot.

The thread is here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1368231.0

Thanks for all the thoughts and other websites out there.  A lot of cool ideas.  Hopefully I will be able to start something like a powerball and actually get some interest from people and who knows maybe it will take off and be huge!  Would be fun to give large amounts of Bitcoin away and would be fun to make video drawings

i don't think starting a lottery is such a good idea these days.

because history has proven that none of the lottery topics has been successful, they just held the lottery for a 2 time tops and then stopped. mostly because people don't win and don't trust these things enough.

Oh, I haven't played on pevpot for a while; I was aware Ryan had sold the site, but I was hoping that the new owner would continue the site, but it seems like he hasn't done anything with it. I wonder why he bought it.

I stopped doing lottery after I lost more then  0.2 btc. It makes me mad that there is so much rubbish out there, and it should make u mad too. I think they make money selling us junk. Well I never won in lottery and I don't know personally anyone who did it, so I don't know how much lottery system is fair.
