It seems like someone called "Cobra" (I thought only theymos and Sirius have control of the domain) is making an auction to advertise on Bitcoin.org , as you can see on the TOP of the page here :

and here is a topic about it Advertise on Bitcoin.org - Round 1 .

I wanted to see what you guys think about it ? I'm personally against it , I mean Bitcointalk.org already makes enough and even if they didn't ... where is Bitcoin foundation from all this ? aren't they supposed to do the funding or whatever ?

I'm probably going to be unpopular for saying this, but I think it could be a good idea. This is provided that the ads are selected carefully. Bitcoin does need some income to maintain websites and services, and I've seen several threads accusing core developers of accepting money from outside entities to influence the direction of Bitcoin. As long as these ads are monitored, and do not affect any development, I think the additional funds could be beneficial.

I also don't like the idea of displaying ad on bitcoin.org like lots of altcoin or shitcoin have in their sites. Bitcoin.org can have option of donation and there is no doubt they can collect enough donation to run the site smoothly.

I would like to raise my concern as well with going against the advertising slot opened up recently there. It has been like that since I could remember and it would be better for it to remain clean of ads and more focus on provided information for those who are starting to get to know BTCitcoin.

Its a web page afte rall...
i wouldnt mind a banner or two.
As long as they wont be agressive or to big, will show some good(sfw) ad's
im ok with that. Most of us using adblocking soft any way.
And you know what? A newbie to bitcoin may find lack of ads suspicious...

If they own the site they can do whatever they want with it, your opinion is irrelevant, you have nothing to say about what other people do with their websites.

The owner of the website can do whatever he wants. That's a fact.
This however does not mean that I would like it, but in that case I have no right to say what someone should do with what he owns.

The idea is bad but we will get a good outcome through it. Through search engines if someone searches for a site whose ad was placed in bitcoin.org it will show bitcoin.org too which makes a organic growth.

Everyone just confuses bitcoin.org as the website for everyone.
It is a private site owned by Cobra for now and he can do whatever he thinks might be sustainable for its existence.

I have seen many of them are suggesting to place a donation button instead but I wanna ask then this question, will you bother to donate a cent even?
The answer will obviously be a "NOPE".

So leave that on Cobra for now. His decision is the final one.

Well I can suggest him not to place ads on the header area but to place it as a "Sponsored by ______" on the footer area.

Actually, he's the co-domain owner(he himself has said that) and I believe theymos and someone else is the "management" , whose decision Cobra can overrule, with sirius being the "main" domain holder

As far as I know sirius is dead.

No, he's not. Here is his twitter.

The idea is bad but we will get a good outcome through it. Through search engines if someone searches for a site whose ad was placed in bitcoin.org it will show bitcoin.org too which makes a organic growth.
It could also be quite beneficial if the generated money was invested further. However, they'd have to pay attention to what kind of ads it would be displaying.

I also don't like the idea of displaying ad on bitcoin.org like lots of altcoin or shitcoin have in their sites.
Ads are not a classification for altcoins/shitcoins. A lot of sites use ADs and a lot are in need of the profit.

Actually, he's the co-domain owner(he himself has said that) and I believe theymos and someone else is the "management" , whose decision Cobra can overrule, with sirius being the "main" domain holder
