Dual 5870s, 600 MH/s stock settings

using poclbm 1.48 and SDK 2.4 (couldnt get 2.1 working, so I just went for the latest... 5-10% doesn't make a huge difference to me just yet).

What to do?  I'm considering phoenix as I see that a lot on the hardware guide... I will say these cards are huge as shit and 1 more wire in the case and they wouldnt have fit, literally.

Play with the GPU settings, or switch to phoenix first?  BIG difference from 29MH/s with 0.2 BTC/day on a good day lol

I'd recommend both. My 5870 is doing 321Mhash with a combination of overclocking, Phoenix, and the right command-line switches. 

Off the top of my head: Win7 64 bit, 11.5, 2.4 sdk, 825/500, phatk kernel, vectors bmi_int workspace=128 fastloop=false aggression=11. 71C, but mainly because of the spacing between the cards; the 5870 is on top and fan is almost completely covered. It also sits in a room at a constant 62F with a fan on it, so probably much hotter in a normal environment.

yeah i just switched over to phoenix... i am getting 344 with aggression = 7.  I'm getting 91c/71c.  Its in an air conditioned basement.  The cards are pretty much stacked right on top of one another... using the catalyst control center, 900mhz is the lowest i can go on the memory clock, and gpu clock is currently 850.

Once I just bumped down the memory to 900, im noticing it still runs at about 339 MH/s, but periodically dips down into the 250's.  Any tips based on all of that info?

Stock voltage? Mine would run at that for awhile, then lock up. I didn't want to mess with the voltage too much. MSI Frozr II here...

My 5870 vapor x does 400+ mhash/s... latest opencl and drivers, poclbm -v, clocks 925-1000 gpu and 300 memory

What are you guys using for clocking and voltage settings?  All I have at the moment is the catalyst drivers.

Want to get those temps down a bit and bump up the speed as well.

I am getting about 370mhash/sec, voltage 1.20 clock at 900/300 using poclbm and the temp sits at around 76-77 most of the time (it's directly on top of my 5970).

Definitely want to, but I dont have any kind of overclocking tools to drop the memory clock below 900.  What do you guys recommend?

Do you realy slow down the memory to like 300 MHz?
And you also slow down the clock to like 900 MHz?

I'm waiting for my own 5870 and I thought it be good to slow down memory to reduce heat production and therefore tune up the clock?!
The memory is not so important, right?

Exactly.  Mining needs raw GPU computations and doesn't need to store a lot of data in memory.  By downclocking the memory you reduce the heat, which in turn [may] allow you to increase the core clock a few more MHz and stay at the same heat levels.  It's all a balancing act of gpu clock, memory clock, temperature, and Mhash.

If you are on windows, you can try using Trixx OC tool from Sapphire. It usually works with other card vendors (tested it with XFX 5850). It allows you to bring down the memory down to 300Mhz, choose custom fan control, adjust voltage (May not work for all) and of course OC the GPU Core. It works in Crossfire too! Latest version is 4.0.1. Check that out.

Those numbers are not true. Stock, they come at a core clock of 850 and memory of 1000

well with one of my two cards running at 91 degrees c, my primary focus right now is getting the temp down.  I want to make some money for a bit, then I can start to fine tune my scripts, etc.

I have two ATI brand 5870s.  I'm getting a fairly stead 640-700MH/s right now with totally stock settings, and aggression between 7 and 11.  While running hot, the temps have been stable at least.  I also have two cards stacked directly on top of each other, which isn't exactly ideal.

Aside from Trixx, does anyone else have any suggestions for overclocking tools for Radeon?  I've used RivaTuner back in my nvidia days

for the 5800 series cards try -v -w128 fellas...

my 5850 does ~350 MH/s at 935MHz/345MHz and with the fan at 60% it stays around 60°...

also use MSIafterburner to overclock and underclock...

1. your unofficialoverclocking lines in MSIafterburner.cfg should read like this if you want to OC/UC...

UnofficialOverclockingEULA   = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

2. to underclock your memory go into CCC and set the card defaults in CCC Overdrive, close CCC, then open MSIafterburner, set your core clock, and then slide the memory all the way down as low as it will go, apply and then exit, open afterburner up AGAIN and your mem clocks should be able to go lower than was listed before...

your numbers are switched, the memory clocks are always higher since I can remember, but yes, you overclock your core and underclock your memory...

Getting 390 MH/s with 925 core/300 memory right now... temperature looks like it will stay at 80C or below.  Going to let it run for a bit and stabilize before I tweak any more.

MSI Afterburner worked a treat.  A little less user friendly than I'd like at first, but nothing I couldn't figure out with a little extra effort
