http://ethosdistro.com/

Hey all! Thought I would start a new thread for ethOS 1.0.1

Check out the changelog: http://ethosdistro.com/changelog/

Reception has been great! Everyone that has bought ethOS has loved its simplicity and ease of use. So far we have contributed 656 developer hours to ethOS. Check it out at http://ethosdistro.com/#how-to-get

Half the other thread was useless crap. I see this problem cannot be avoided. Thanks for your contribution.

Yes I agree. You should release this for free because its all about open source instead of trying to profit off newbies who can't install Linux on their own.

Then you can promote your website and you will get sales in return on your GPUs.

Newbies who can't install linux are not our target market. Big miners are willing to pay so that they can deploy faster. ethOS is relatively cheap to them, considering that without it, they would delay their deployment by days if not a week.

In any case, I am not trying to profit off anyone. Our devs need to get paid, without money, they will not do any work. That's just how the world works. If you want free, download ubuntu and enjoy.

I don't think anyone serious goes through an installation and configuration process every time they bring new gear online. I myself configured everything once, set that hard drive aside and clone it every time I bring a new rig online. Pretty sure anyone with common sense does the same.

That being said, if there's a market for this that's ok. Up to people to decide what they want. All this "please give me things instead of making me pay for them" that is so common on this forum is downright embarrassing.

Been using this since release, works like a charm.  For me the value is ease of use and setup.  I've been mining as a hobby for over 2 years and while I don't consider myself particularly adept at linux I've certainly spent hours and possibly days of my life setting up various mining clients on ubuntu over the years.  I really value the simplicity and time saved by using this disto (and others like it, previously BAMT and PIMP)

I don't know why this thread and the old one are troll magnets with people jumping down Dev's throat about charging money for his OS, personally I don't see a problem paying someone for a service they put hundreds of hours into.  40$ for hassle-free mining is fine by me, and is better than spending hours of slogging though google and desolate forum posts for answers.

I'm glad Kotarius implemented an update feature, I was a little worried that there would be no future development, but this helps instill confidence moving forward.  Overall I've been very happy with this product so far.

@Kotarius, will you be providing an update for the homestead release?

Thanks very much for the kind words. We have a development schedule in place and plan to release once per month for the forseeable future.

Homestead will hit within a week, it is a hardfork, I assume the entire go ethereum package needs to be updated before then to continue mining.

Can't find any resources online that mention hardfork affecting client-side mining. I operate a farm as well, so my incentives are aligned to release working versions of ethOS.

Kotarius, I need a little help.

I recently purchased a SSD with EthOS on it from you guys at gpushack. Some questions:

1)I have no idea what i'm doing in Linux. What commands do i need to do to get going?
When I try to change directory to /home/ethos/local it says it does not exist.

2) How do i set my pool up to work at dwarfpool?

3) I tried the typical command line of ethminer -G -M and there is the JSON problem how do I generate the DAG?

Been trying to get this running for a few hours to no avail. Any helpo would be appreciated. Also thanks for the 6 cards I've purchased from you guys. You even threw in an extra high speed fan in my last order. I'm assuming because the zipties holding on the original were brittle and breaking. Thanks for the help!

Kotarius, I need a little help.

It is very difficult to help set up over email/skype/forms, but I will do my best.

Update your rig: http://ethosdistro.com/kb/#updating

This is all done automatically in the background. All ethOS commands are visible when you login, or if you run helpme.

This should be plenty to get me started. Maybe you guys should make it a little easier to find all this info. I could have easily overlooked the link to this somewhere though. Maybe add a link to the setup steps on the GPUshack page. Anyways thanks for the help, I'll work on this tonight.

Could you please email sales@gpusack.com with your order number and reference this quoted text? I will walk through your order and do an audit of the locations where we provide the help/guide links, hopefully making them more visible for future customers.
