I have a peer with the subver Dain 0.0.1: version 70002. It does not behave maliciously or anything like that Im just curious. I couldnt find anything via the common search engines. Does anyone know anything about this node version?

Code:
2016-01-21 22:52:01 receive version message: Dain 0.0.1: version 70002, blocks=394355, us=-:8333, peer=14
2016-01-23 08:41:07 receive version message: Dain 0.0.1: version 70002, blocks=394589, us=-:8333, peer=6
2016-01-24 08:40:54 receive version message: Dain 0.0.1: version 70002, blocks=394763, us=-:8333, peer=5
2016-02-28 18:41:06 receive version message: Dain 0.0.1: version 70002, blocks=1, us=-:8333, peer=562
2016-03-01 23:34:28 receive version message: Dain 0.0.1: version 70002, blocks=400737, us=-:8333, peer=216

Haven't checked my node to see if this version appeared there too. That being said there are many, many weird peers on the network... Also curious about those "Snoopy" versions that were out there, "0.9.99", "Marilyn" and many other curious ones I've seen throughout the years Cheesy

I had a few snoopy's as well, but Dain is consistently connected (>24 hours now).

Same here. What's the deal with Dain 0.0.1?

Your guess is as good as mine. I didnt find a webserver on the IP that could provide more information. Its still connected from time to time, but I dont think I will find out who or what is behind it unless someone posts here.

I notice that the developer for this package has the user name 'dain':

https://pypi.python.org/pypi/yubico-bitcoin

Maybe he has written some node s/w as well.

Might be, didnt find it on their git though -> https://github.com/dainnilsson

maybe its just their modified version of one of the other clients.

I also see a Dain 0.0.1 node connected to my node.

From my debug Peers screen on my Satoshi .12.1 client/node

52.91.2.80:44724 (node id: 219)
via xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  (x's to obscure my ip.)

User Agent                 Dain 0.0.1
Services                     NETWORK
Starting Block             414735

(edit)
I just noticed that version 70002 is probably Satoshi:0.11.0 , so I am guessing someone changed the client's name before compiling.

So this person is running an old Satoshi client.

So your IP shall be hidden, but sharing the IPs of others is fine?

I would think they also changed other parts of the code.
