If not, I would like to suggest that we can, it'd be really useful for stores etc.

Could you elaborate on why you don't like the idea?

yes you can do it.
open a spreadsheet create or import from your computer
if you ready to publish it
File > Publish to the Web
and get an embeded code

Just tested it, it gives me HTML code, not BB code.

I'm with the idea if it looks nice with the new forum template and also looks clean . Security is all though , If we are going to have issues because of this (just like Flash & YouTube) then better not do it .

I agree, security first. I don't believe there will be problems with it, I have seen many forums having a system to embed Google drive spreadsheets.

you can not use embed codes on forums generally
this is not just about google drive iframe links very dangerous if it is accessable for everyone

yea you did not say using <iframe> but this is the easy tecnic to use external sources to getting on your site.
the other methods needs some coding skills. you also use api codes on your site or forum.
if you want to use like [spreadsheet] tag, you can modify your text editor on your site. or search some plugins.
what text editor do you use on your platform? for example ckeditor has a plugin for embeding google docs.
