I have never herd anyone asking that, I really don't know, All I know is the old CRT monitors (with twiddle controlls)could be turned down to blank! Just been checking my TFT screens, And all go to nearly blank, I assume they all go really dark.

Puzzled why this is a problem for you?  Huh

Lol to be honest, I have my LED LCD monitor turned down to the lowest possible brightness. It hurts my eyes if it's too bright.

If your LCD is still too bright, can't you just get one of those privacy filters or something similar to artificially dim the screen?

Turn down the contrast in the driver, then white will only 50% bright.

This is a problem with most monitors, the brightest, most reflective one in Best Buy sells to the most dummies.
