It just seems there is so much potential for creating darknet markets with resistance to fascist zealots more freedom of speech.

Any significantly advanced cryptocurrency is indistinguishable from Ponzi Tulips.

Old threads with the same question (Shameless link-ins to my own posts):

Namecoin - what is going on?

What's going on with Namecoin?

There was one proof-of-concept for using Namecoin to store an alias (like a nickname for your bitcoin address), but it never was really live. Otherwise, it is a DNS system that nobody uses for resolving domains. It is still 0.3.24-based, so any security concerns that have been addressed in new Bitcoin updates are still present. It works fine and doesn't need shameless pump-and-dump promotion, since it was the first alt-coin and wasn't created by some get-rich speculator.

If you have some interesting project that needs (name)->(some number) mapping or have some other concept that could use it, it will keep on making a blockchain for you to store your data in.

Nope. I don't even think anyone accepts NMC for payment.

Handful of domain name squatters sitting on 90% of all NMC mined.

I have some namecoins.... and i'm very interested in actually doing something with a few .bit sites..... hosting seems to be the biggest hurdle for me at the moment...

But I getting to grips with Linux and a number of github projects so will be looking into any dev work that namecoins needs when i get some time (will be a while though... lot on my plate atm)

its just a shame if what smoothie says is true and 90% of the coins are just being held by domain name squatters and people waiting for their hoard of coins to be worth something

Try and find one good .bit domain name. Let me know if you end up finding one.

As far as I am aware they are all squatted.

I bought TRC.bit no problems registering the domain... but i suppose that a testament to the newness and non-mainstreamness of terracoin atm Tongue  But i'll let u know if I find any...

He is just making up nonsense, which is why I had to unignore to see what was written. How does a "domain squatter" also "have all the coins"? Domain names cost money (0.02), which is destroyed by reserving a name. Namecoins are merge mined by many pools, ownership is spread as wide as all the users of more than half the pools. There are currently 61780 registered Namecoin names, including namespaces that are not for domains. That is compared to 105 million dot com domains. I'm sure you can find something not "squatted".

If there are any three-character names not squatted then squatting has barely started. Are all the two-character ones squatted yet? Since in general shorter is better the fact you cannot think of anything offhand that some three characters is an acronym for doesn't mean it isn't a great acronym for something you haven't yet heard of.
