Continue the trend of the letter writing campaign to the EFF, which hacker/geek charity do you guys want to target next?
I guess we could use the EFF as an example charity that accepted bitcoins.

So there are at least two German nationals just on this tread alone using the English section. Why not a German section? If there are two Germans with good enough English skills to manage interested in Bitcoins, surely there are more who are not so skilled in English. Also, have either of you guys seen www.flinc.org or www.flinc.mobi? I know it's not particularly related, but I've already brought up Bitcoin with these guys, and have never received any kind of reply on the idea. I could really use this Flinc system, since I don't own a car of my own. |

well, I guess if we make a German section, we need some German speaking moderators.

While interesting, he is only one individual. The Chaos Computer Club is composed of many more individuals and we have German speakers on hand who can help us. Convincing such large organizations will allow us to convince more hacker charities. Still, if there are Chinese speaker, than he could contribute his spare resources to convince individuals like these. A cross-pollination and cultural exchange between the east and west would be beneficial. |

How about Freenet? http://freenetproject.org/The topic of accepting freenet donations was brought up on one of the Freenet message boards (hosted on Freenet): Someone asked if it was possible to donate to Freenet development via bitcoins. The response from a freenet developer was that 'putting it on the website would probably be pointless; nobody EVER uses anything but paypal'. However they did say they were willing to accept bitcoin donations for the project privately if they were for more than the equivalent of $100 US (presumably to reduce transaction fees when converting). If they knew there was interest in donating from bitcoin users they might be more receptive to making an option publicly available. |

I just talked to echelon from the i2p network about accepting donations in bitcoins. He was interested and I hope that he will finally agree. If you don't know what I2P is about.. "I2P is an anonymizing network, offering a simple layer that identity-sensitive applications can use to securely communicate. All data is wrapped with several layers of encryption, and the network is both distributed and dynamic, with no trusted parties." The big advantage of I2P versus the freenet-project is the higher speed - and I2P comes with an inbuilt torrent tracker, and there is the possibility to install multiple plug-ins. The i2p-network is more or less in the same state as bitcoin - the concept is good, but there is definitely a need to get more people involved. You can find the I2P project here: http://www.i2p2.de |
