There were few other coins pretending to be game-changer, that have faded to oblivion or went nowhere: BlackCoin, NXT, WhiteCoin, NEM (did it even launched?), Ripple and so on. No technical novelty will make any coin defeating bitcoin. Just no Smiley

What a closed mind-set.

I do not think so. It might take over bitcoin in a few years if the bitcoin does not develop properly and there is big conflict in the community.

It's the matter of months if not weeks if you ask me.

I see Bitcoin as gold, Ether as oil. Two precious, yet different commodities.

What I frankly do not understand is what will happen with Ether once it turns from PoW to PoS. There was a blog posting from Vitalik a couple of days ago which stirred some excitement amongst some uber-geeks, however, I didn't understand shit...

Definitely not, all Altcoins rely on bitcoins value, How on earth ethereum gonna beat bitcoins value? No alternative coin can beat bitcoin value. Nope ETH cant replace bitcoin Lol, that's why it called alt of bitcoin.

I don't think so, Ethereum is a promising cryptocurrency but the magnitude is just too different even with the current rise of price of Ethereum, I don't see it replacing bitcoin..

What will be the future of bitcoin after the Ethereum project?

Here's what Stephen Tual has to say about it:

"Bright. Ethereum does not supplant Bitcoin, nor does it try to. It complements it.

Bitcoin is your store of value, your gold vaults. When you want to put your capital to work you need an engine (Ethereum) and to run the engine you need oil (Ether).

It's completely possible to imagine (in my view, inevitable) that we'll frequently see derivatives built on Ethereum backed by Bitcoin."

There is no need to worry about the future of bitcoin since the appearance of Ethereum. They have different applications.
