Avalon ASIC Collector Value

What is the collector value, if any, on the first batches of Avalons? They were the first ASICs in history actually released.

There was a rather fascinating thread on a similar subject a while back. Can't find it for now. I myself can't see them ever becoming a coveted item but what do I know?

Everyone can see the importance of an early Apple. Even if Bitcoin does really go places, an early ASIC will be a forgotten footnote to most. I guess a tiny hard core would be interested but you still can't do anything with them, they just sit there. I wouldn't go buying one for investment purposes myself.

I'm not sure they have any value really, other than as an interesting object to stick on the desk or around the office. Maybe if bitcoin grows bigger and more popular with more people then there is a bigger customer base to buy them. I'd stay away from any hardware for collecting, unless you have a personal interest in it or they are small items like USB sticks.

Batch 1's were silver. There were only ~200 or so, if I'm not mistaken.

Can't help mentioning that first ASIC's in history was developed in the late 70ties.
But I know what you mean, you talk about SHA hashing IC's.

To my knowledge does old electronic component only have a value if they are still used, the few collectible items are complete functional products.
I think you have to go many many years down the road for these to gain value, example as replacement part for museums keeping the good old hashers alive.

I was speaking more of the drama surrounding the race to release first in Bitcoinland. I agree with most everything that's been said so far and appreciate the insight.

Maybe someone can come up with retrocoin to give them something to do in the future. That's if they don't get wiped out by late generations.
