The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You can exchange namecoins with sellers in forum threads around here, sellers on the dot-bit.org site, or the namecoin exchange. Whether it's profitable or not vs bitcoins depends on the difficulties of the two chains and the price you get for them. I'll leave that up to you to calculate. You can read more about what they are here.
