Hi guys

I have a computer that is on 24/7 and I have a GTX 960 card in there. I'd like to see if I can use this for mining litecoin when its on. I started to do this for bitcoin but quickly gave up after I read up everywhere its pretty useless.

I am now in the litecoin camp and would like a little steer from you experts.

As I want to use my existing PC with a powerful mid range GPU GTX 960. What are the current best methods of doing this? There are way to many youtube videos and articles about, the only reason I am asking and raising this now is to know what is "currently" the best method of mining litecoin.

I used the GUI MIner located on this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3878.0 and it gave me about 330 Mhash per sec for bitcoin.

Since switching to litecoin, I am not sure which miner to use. I did use the same GUI miner I used for Bitcoin to do litecoin mining with a pool from wemineltc.com and it seems that I have getting the same hash rate as I did with Bitcoin. It also seems to accept shares exactly like bitcoin. I am not sure if its actually working though.

I then found this Cudaminer on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0 which apparently does scrypt mining.

Can I get some help with this please? Again, this is just to put a computer that is on 24/7 to good use.

Lastly, I have read in a few places that mining with a Nvidia card is not the best thing to do, what are your thoughts?

GPU mining litecoin is also useless. There are ASICs for it for a long time now.

Look around in the ccminer threads for nvidia miners.

Not your keys, not your coins!

Thanks for replying. Can you please tell me which sort of ASICS are actually worth purchasing for litecoin?

Also, I could not find the CCminer threads, where are they?

Many thanks.

All right GPU mining is meaningless in terms of LTC, unless the loss mining .but who needs it?

Ether is profitable on AMD GPUs right now, not sure about Nvidia. ALso look into Feathercoin as another GPU mineable coin. Primecoin is another although Im not sure if that coin is profitable or even has enough volume to trade with.

It's still possible to mine ETH. Go to GitHub to read and download the code.

it's profitable on both, 970 = 166w/22megahash

Litecoin is minable by ASIC, so it is not profitable to mine with GPU.

Sorry guys, I just tried to get this to work but I am stuck. I figured, I am not techie enough to get the miners working. Is there a step by step guide somewhere to do this? I am having no luck on my own with the NVIDIA miners.

I don't think Litecoin is worth that much nowadays, you might want to consider other new altcoins Cheesy

With 960, you can mine Ethereum. It is the most profitable coin. You can also mine Decred, it is also good.

As of right now, a WORKING KnC Titan is the most efficient Scrypt (Litecoin, Doge, etc) miner in existance - but they had a bad tendancy to have cores die a lot and they're still a bit pricy most of the time.
The Innosilicon A2 and Alcheminer were a tossup for next most efficient, with a TON of A2 units still hashing away with very good reliability - the Alcheminer folks didn't sell nearly as many units, but it seems to have good reliability as well. There were some issues with some pools not getting along with the early Alcheminer software, but those issues seem to have been fixed over time, and some pools never had an issue with them (the early software needed a quite HIGH difficulty to work well that most pools couldn't provide).

Everything else was quite a bit less efficient, to the point that you need VERY VERY cheap electric to make any profit at all with other Scrypt ASIC miners, and the early Gridseed GC3355 based gear can't make a profit at ALL unless you have free or essentially-free electric.

Trying to mine Litecoin with a GPU became unprofitable over 2 years back, even with VERY VERY cheap electric, and it's probably never going to achieve RoI on anything GPU based today before your GPU dies even on FREE electric.

Any coin that is based on an algorythm OTHER THAN SHA256 (Bitcoin, Namecoin, etc) or Scrypt (Litecoin, Doge, etc) and POSSIBLY X11 (Dash, etc) should be mineable for a profit with a GPU, if it can be mined at all with a GPU.

X11 is a question mark right now, there IS an announced "available for sale" X11 ASIC-based miner, but it's not been reviewed by a reputable site yet (it's had ONE review that I could find, but the reviewer was a newbie with no reputation), so the actual existance of the thing is in some doubt.
It IS being sold by the DualMiner folks, who DO have a reasonably good reputation for delivery on what they claim to be selling, but the claimed manufacturer "consortium" has ZERO previous track record before they announced their miner.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!
Like something I said? Donations gratefully accepted. LYLnTKvLefz9izJFUvEGQEZzSkz34b3N6U (Litecoin)

Mining Litecoin using GPUs is like racing a F1 race on a skateboard...

Here, try these.

Did you actually read the thread?  If they were saying that mining litecoin with a GPU was a silly idea more than a year ago... what did you think was different now?
