It's prefererable to store them in a desktop wallet then putting them in simply a .txt file , someone who have access to your computer can simply take them without the single effort .
Other then that , I would suggest printing them and removing that .txt file definitely .

I make three backups then put one in a bank safe deposit box. Another is buried in an airtight container on property I own. This one can be found with a metal detector. The last is held by a person I trust in another state.

Now I am secured even if a nuke goes off and wipes out my city. Assuming I survive I can get my money back quickly.

Store those keys in an encrypted database like KeePassX, backup database to your favorite cloud storage.

Best way to store private keys safely is to engrave it on a metal because paper tends to worn out with time.
Also never store your cold storage private keys on USB or flash drives because they are not secure as well as having a high chance of getting the data erased after certain time.

Hard drives or usb flash drives can be corrupted at any time so they are not 100% safe, try to write these private keys and cut the paper in half and save the two pieces in different places multiple time.

That almost hurts me to read that, last thing you should store them on is a txt file on a PC you use.  Use a thumb drive and paper wallet for it, put them someplace safe and secure.  I personally like safty deposit boxes.

But don't store them on a PC that is used and connected online.  If compromised you might lose all your coins.

IMO the best way of store your private keys is to make several printing copies of them and save these papers in different secret places. then you will be safe if you lost one of them because you have others. you can also get an old SD card and put the PDF or the TXT on it and hide it in a good and safe place.

If you wish to store private keys, there a few ways to store them. If you just trying to store your private keys and you are not trying to spend your bitcoins, the safest bet would be to print out your private and store the in a locked safety deposit box in a bank. You have to keep in mind that if someone know what private keys are, without a doubt, they will surely go claim them. It is always smart to have a few printed copies of your private keys, a storage device as such a usb with a .txt file or word document. How securely protected your keys are paramount to how well you store them in your own possession. You need to take steps to make sure only you have access to your private keys in your physically possession and no one else.

Email and Facebook may be compromised and the key may be exposed! It is not good practice to store private key.

it depends on your choice and how much you want to protect your private keys.
i would print them on a piece of paper and then laminate the paper and put it away in a safe place and delete the text from my computer.
i personally engraved them on a stainless steel plate Smiley

but also you can still keep the text but with an encryption software, encrypt the file and keep that with a secure password. or even store the keys in an encrypted format. but in this method you will need to remember the passwords and forgetting them means no access.

If you are using a desktop wallet, there's no point in using a txt file. The usual reason people need their private key is because their hard drive failed. If your hard drive fails, then you can't access your txt file.

Just print out your private keys offline.

i dunno if saving directly the private key and destroying the wallet that cointain them to import them in any other new wallet it's actually better than saving the wallet itself, ins oem cases at least

because malware do not target directly the private key but the wallet itself, so in this case you may be safer, but it's a gamble...

Best option is to write them down with pen & paper and keep them at a safe place.

Either store them on a thumb drive or print them out on paper.  You should probably do both just in case.  You could even save them in a spreadsheet, but hidden or coded somehow so no one can tell what they are.

I printed the private keys: I hold one in a closed metal box in a secret palce and I gave another one to a trusted person.

Yeah I agree bro. I don't think it's not necessary to store your private keys of the wallet.  When people need to transfer the wallet to other wallet means only it's needed mostly.
So have it on spreadsheet save that in your pic.

What I did once was I encrypted my wallet.dat file with a password I wrote down (and reproduced several times) and I sent an email to myself with the wallet attached as an attachment. Is that safe or unsafe?

Anyways, back OT, I'd just print out several copies of the private key(s), laminate them and put them around the house.
