How would this prove anything? I never said they would never ship.

Just that it is pathetic that they have had 3 months and more than 10 times amount of customer funds yet...still....nothing.

Also can anyone post a link showing where I said ASICs were never going to exist?

If BFL is 6 times more power efficient, it will be worth the wait.

I disagree, because you are looking at this isolated as a case. Right now Avalon rigs are having a much bigger slice of the pie, than when power efficient BLF rigs hit the marked. The power speculation wont come into play until ASIC's are evenly spread among the miners as GPU/FPGA rigs are now.

Right now anyone with an ASIC is making tons of money compared to someone with an ASIC in 1-2 months. The power calculation is negligible at the moment.

<helo> funny that this proposal grows the maximum block size to 8GB, and is seen as a compromise
<helo> oh, you don't like a 20x increase? well how about 8192x increase?
<JackH> lmao

Right now only one person actually has an ASIC, as far as we know. Who knows how many Avalon rigs will be in operation before BFL ships? It probably won't be many. I suspect there will still be plenty of money to be made for BFL customers if they hit their current timetable.

Jeff is making ~$180 a day with his ASIC. It will have paid for itself in 7 days. I don't think he gives a shit how much power it is using at the moment lol.

To say nothing of the fact that BFL's power claims are totally unverified. Sick to death of hearing how efficient their vaporware that's a minimum of 4 months late will be. Their track record of estimating their products' power consumption flat out sucks. At this rate, by the time BFL actually ships something Avalon may have a die shrink ready for their upgrade-able units.

To be fair, BFL's chip design is far more complicated. Also, their 60Gh units are 1/10th the size compared to Avalon's. Either way, I'm taking the shotgun approach.  Grin

Correct, and that includes those that paid for BFL vaporware products last summer with BTC. Those products look hideously expensive now with BTC over $20. OUCH.

Uh, I wonder if that is the reason why they are increasing their Batch order size. Perhaps they will be aiming for 90nm next?

Someone on BFL forums said that if they switch to 90nm they would halve their power use. Is that true?

BFL you should be ashamed of your quality of service and timing. You had 3 months advance on AVALON and millions more in customer funds to get the job done.

Except that "the job" is dissimilar. Avalon's goal was to produce a small number of units with an old, low-risk process. BFL has been trying to produce much more efficient units that will remain profitable for a long time even after there is competition, and in a huge quantity.

The time frames are also hard to compare, unless Avalon funded all development with pre orders (and putting all customer pre order money at risk like that would be ridiculous).

Your argument is effectively "company B should be ashamed because company A did something different in a different time frame".

Why did you make this thread? Why are you so obsessed with complaining about BFL?

...

I see little reason why BFL would want to sit on "customer's" money unless they wanted to use it...or steal it.  It would have been relatively easy to use escrow, or better yet, the native abilities of Bitcoin itself to maintain a queue if they did not have some reason why they wanted to have full control of the funds.
