Post quality is not something that can be decried in few words. Basically good post = post with meaningful content bringing something to the discussion.
But it is not as simple as that, sometimes post with only one word will be meaningful, sometimes more words are needed etc.

Hi.
I think i mostly length of a post that determinates its quality.
As You said, one liners can bring harm.
Other things are grammar and word selection.(i don't think bad language/curses are taken in to consideration)
If you wish your post to be nice and valuable some effort in both must be put.
Another thing will be the post adequacy to the given subject.
This is very important as moderators can and will delete those posts that are off topic.

Hope i gave some light on it.

A post of poor quality adds nothing to the discussion. They can be irrelevant to the discussion or repeats of what was already said.

If you are posting for the sake of posting, then don't post. If what you are going to say has already been said, don't post. If what you post just isn't going to help advance the discussion, don't post.

This also applies to the long threads with stupid questions where people only post to boost their post count.

If the check is 100% automated, the length of the post, the subforum where's the post and maybe even a check if it was quoted is possible (since it means it was useful and triggered a discussion) and could count.

If the check is made (partly or completely) by human, ... "the beauty in the eye of the beholder" - your post may need to be indeed helpful, not repeating, not very short and so on.

There are 2 ways of looking at this: the manual (good, but labour intensive) way, and the automated (bad, but fast way) way.

In my opinion, a good post adds something to the discussion, or is at least aimed at adding something to the discussion. This does not automatically mean the poster has to be correct (we're all here to learn).
In this case, even very short posts can contribute to the discussion, on the other hand, very long posts can be completely meaningless.

When you're looking at the discussion in an automated way (the way a couple sig campaigns use, by using an automated sig campaign bot), things become very simple: count the ammount of characters and words, and see if on average the post was long enough and contained enough words... Exclude some categories, and you're done.

taking myself as an example, i type untill i think it's enough and when my post adds something to the thread or the post that i quoted. but in general, length doesn't always mean it's a high/good quality post. some times you can do it in just one sentence, and some times it requires more than that. i have one main rule for posting: if i don't have anything to say, then i simply don't post. very simple.

Thanks everyone for their input.

You guys all brought up very good points and all gave me a little more insight.

Yes, Common sense is a good thing to use before you post.  Wink

I believe you guys got my question 100 percent answered, so I am going to lock this topic.

Have a good day/night!
