My friend and I are both using the latest version of bitcoin-qt on a mac with el capitan.
In the interest of saving harddrive space I would like to remove the blockchain from my mac and put it on a separate drive.
He and I, both, cannot find the directory in the normal place:

~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/

It is not there.  I have searched everywhere on my computer, and his, and cannot find the file in order to erase/remove it?

Where is it?  What is is named by default?

~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/blocks (/blockchain)?

files inside should be blk00000.dat, blk00001.dat, and so on.

Nope.  Not there.

Can anyone help?

there is no file for bitcoin in library/application support  at all
It should be a folder named Bitcoin in ~/Library/Application Support. Inside the Bitcoin folder, you should see files such as wallet.dat, debug.log, peers.dat, and a few others. You will also see folders named blocks, chainstate, and a few other folders. You will only see this folder if you have run Bitcoin Core at least once.

I searched my mac's hard drive, desktop and every other nook of my computer for debug.log, peers.dat and all of the other files named in this thread.  Nothing.  Unreal.
What's going on?

Does the search include hidden directories? The folder is hidden by default on Windows as well as Linux.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Did you try going to that location using the Go menu in Finder?

https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19069?locale=en_US

So have you "searched" as in used the search function or "searched" as in gone to that directory and looked it it as above or using the Terminal?

I used the "find" fuction in finder and nothing with any of the above files could be found in addition to blk00001.dat

I tried the GO function.

Nothing

HELP

Try searching Block or Blocks, or find a command to print the datadir location.

The first thing I did when loading up Bitcoin-QT for the first time was relocating it to a drive of its own (runs faster and easier to find). You can do this by producing a 100GB VHD file.

Do you have any settings on your Bitcoin Core shortcut pointing to a different datadir?

nada

How about.

#1 open core
#2 open the debug.log from within (Help -> Debug Window -> Information -> Open)
#3 wait for it to open in a text editor and within that editor select save as. It should show the current location of the file.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Or he can just open the debug.log and search for the line "Using data directory". That will tell him where the data directory is.

The debug log says it is using the file in ~Library/ApplicationSupport/Bitcoin but when I try to find Bitcoin in ApplicationSupport it is not there!!!

I swear I am not crazy

Where the hell is it?

How can it be using a file that does not exist?

Where is the blockchain data being stored on my Hard Drive?

The same thing is happening on my friend's computer as well!

have you tried these methods?
