With new altcoins coming out every day, I'm having a hard time discerning which ones to take seriously, and which to disregard. What criteria do you look for in a new coin that makes it stand out? Please don't spam me with a sales pitch for your coin. I would like to know the process for picking out promising new coins before they've already succeeded.

I keep an eye on coinmarketcap for new coins - before it hits cmc, it's too early. Here's the table, http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/views/all/If you see a '?' in the last column (7 day change), that's a new coin that's just been added to CMC and is worthy of further investigation. Sometimes CMC makes a mistakes and puts a '?' in the last column, so to make sure, check the chart to make sure it doesn't have much history. I have a script set up to report new coins hitting CMC for me that meet certain parameters. It's not a guarantee, but it generally throws up coins that are worthy of further investigation.

as a trader, I did not just focus on one coin. but if there is a new coin put in an exchanger, I will focus on that coin because pump and dump scheme will be very profitable

Start by searching for the other topics just like this one created already. There is probably 100+
Then i usually ask what is your intention. - Profit.. NOW!! - Long term / Investment ? - Currency Usage.. now or later ? - Do you want to support Crypto ? - Combo of reasons ?
Your asking a vague question. And it's the same as when every other person asked here before.
You might as well walk into a store and say show me something i like.

Thanks for the tip! I always get bogged down trying to weed through ANN posts for new coins but this method makes much more sense. I'll have to look into making a script of my own I think I can figure that out, but what about these parameters you speak of? Just values from CMC? Thanks again

I'm not much interested in trading as I am in finding legitimate projects that have potential to grow and develop over time but I appreciate the advice!

Price is pretty irrelevant, available supply doesn't mean a lot on it's own, but volume is really important. There are two key things I look at in a newly added coin - the market cap, the volume . . . and most importanly market cap divided by volume. That really tells a story - I like something around a ratio of 100. You won't get this number on CMC, gotta do that in your script. You can see this even with larger coins - You want a good ratio . . . for example Bitcoin 74:1 Litecoin 118:1 Compare that to larger coins with suspect valuations - Ripple 1700:1 Bytecoin 979:1 Too large and it's a dodgy premine, too small and it's a pump'n'dump.

As I assume you know, the climate in the cryptocurrency world is constantly changing. I posted a new topic because I am interested in current crypto concepts and how to navigate them properly. To answer your question, my intention is long term investment and to gain a greater understanding about the underlying technology . Obviously, investing in stable growing industry results in monetary gain so I won't act like I'm not interested in profit, but I fully support crypto and believe that it is the future of currency. With all (due?) respect, my question is not vague, as I am specifically asking what set of criteria people are using to determine the legitimacy of new coins. Additionally, the reality of the situation is contrary to your analogy. This is more like me walking into a hardware store and asking long time customers what characteristics of previously purchased tools they have found to be indicitave of a long lasting product.

Where does a non tech person get and run a script like that ? You'd have to hire someone if you're not technical. Or maybe I should sell mine. Here's what I got on the last run a few hours ago. This is the kind of thing a script outputs CMC Name Ticker CAP Vol 1hr 24hr 1week Ratio 203 HODLCoin HODLCoin HODL 68811 604 6.31 23.39 ? 113.9254966887 240 DeBuNe DeBuNe DEBUNE 32907 28 -0.06 2.47 ? 1175.25 270 C-Bit C-Bit XCT 16435 566 0.08 9.95 ? 29.0371024735 314 Bubble Bubble BUB 2245 18 0.07 1.53 ? 124.7222222222 324 Antilitecoin Antilitecoin ALTC 965 13 0.04 -4.56 ? 74.2307692308 327 Coinaid Coinaid CAID 839 13 0.06 1.52 ? 64.5384615385 332 Independent Money System Independent ... IMS 486 28 0.04 4.15 ? 17.3571428571 It's not a guarantee though - in fact I can guarantee some of these are dogs. It's just a starting point for research - you can't write a script for that.

Too large and it's a dodgy premine, too small and it's a pump'n'dump. Well damn..I was expecting some crazy algorithm haha. That's exactly the kind of constructive information I was trying to find! So from that point I'd assume you just need to do your research and look for any scammy tell tales. I have been out of the cryptocurrency loop for a little while and assume that scammers have evolved with the times. Obviously huge premines as you said are suspect and that ratio seems a decent way to identify a pump n dump. Are there any new red flags that scream scam to you from your experience? Seriously, huge thanks for all the info.

Firstly it is a road map. Secondly, it is highly desirable that there were no preliminary sales coins. In the mass, follow the news in the main branch. Fourth, you need to learn more about Dev (his past projects, etc.) And finally, good luck) I'm in the middle fork in the selection, it turns out to make 200-400% profit.

Yes, I think it's all downhill from here for ETH. Certainly no possibility of getting 100 or 1000 times back on your invesment like there is with little cap alts.
