If bitcoin succeeds... what will be the greatest contributing factor?
Greedy bankers.
I would even say greed in general.

Just look at this forum. It's hard not to become greedy with bitcoin.

Requiring others to be not greedy is the top of greed.

Business owners like it, since no chargebacks and no trace of income, means no fees and no tax, but average consumers do not like it for the same reason

I think the greatest contributing factor will be the ability to pay for...a beer in BTC.

Up to know the grates limiting factor is still, that Bitcoin is way to geeky.

We it has reached the point where you can use it in a way that you don't need the slighted bit of interest in how it works it's real rise will begin.

Like Bob is sending BTC to Alice and all the rest happening in the background.

Not like 133Ke6YVKu5YDV5zJ11Z2ZFVrZsbcg2YTZ is sending BTC to 1L33AJvFkSx2sq3A7iAPpCzh9Dduc86TEQ and has to pay 0.005 BTC fee while the last time for the same amount it was 0.01 BTC and Bob doesn't understand why.

All previous versions of currency will no longer be supported as of this update

We need more real ecommerce sites instead of a huge focus on gambling.

Gambling is the first step.. after gambling will prove this is working, there will be the porn industry, other type of commerce will mass-follow after !

Greedy bankers.

Indeed, in the comming years, the banking system is doomed to fall appart, creating growing frustration in the world population.  THIS will also bring bitcoin to be known !

Everyone should do like me.. Anytime I encounter a cashier / POS I ask if they know about BitCoin, Gas Station, Restaurant, Bar, Bank, Friends, everytime I'm implied in an exchange !

I tell the person that they should Google Bitcoin, and also tell them that within 5 years, I should be able to pay them with Bitcoin, this would be better than debit card or cash !

It allowing people to control their own finances. Specifically, being able to hold on to your own money, and spend it however and on whatever you wish. Just as BitTorrent is eroding copyright laws and 3D printing will soon erode manufacturing, import, and other restrictions on possession of items, Bitcoin will eventually erode laws that limit people from buying things or paying for things that some other group of people decided should be illegal or immoral. The more these "morality" laws get ignored the more their power slips away. Just ask any teenager nowadays if they think downloading music or movies is stealing. Then extrapolate that to a few years/decades from now, when you'll get the same answer when asking about purchasing things or doing things with money we think are illegal now.
(p.s. not just drugs, but gambling, prostitution, weapons, items from sanctioned countries, taking more of your money across the border than allowed by law, transferring large sums without restrictions, and other illegal but not necessarily immoral products and services)

I think a major economy cracking will cause a lot of people to look into Bitcoin.

Kyle Bass says that Japan has maybe 2 years before it disintegrates into a hyperinflationary chaos. They are
at the point where more than half of govt revenues go into debt service. Now that Abe is aggressively pursuing
inflation, their interest rates will go up.

Anyway, when the Japanese people see their saving start to erode in govt bonds, then they'll look into alternative
investememts, gold, silver, Bitcoin. That is assuming the govt does not impose capital controls like Argentina.

It doesn't hurt that Mt Gox is based in Japan!  Grin

How to Order a Pizza With Bitcoins
http://mashable.com/2013/02/06/pizza-bitcoins/

The site is the brainchild of Matt Burkinshaw and Riley Alexander, who state in the "about us" section that they did it "to further expand the usability of bitcoins on the open market."

defining factor would be decentralization. nothing like that existed before Bitcoin, we had irreversible payments but it was all through a non audited centralized system like Liberty Reserve
