Meaning;

1) Yes, notes can be customised!!!

2) It won't take a year to get a note out

I may have been told some fud by some single users but roaming around different slack channels you pick up certain things. Some have called it a pumpNdump coin that certain individuals hold a lot of with that purpose alone. I have not been involved in it's community though so I can only speak of what I've heard. Not good things, let's just say that.

Well... This is quite concerning. But I have to be honest, I haven't heard about any negative press on Viacoin. 

I really hope this is not the case.

In anycase, we were simply looking at creating concepts for various altcoins and were propositioned to make it.

Viacoin has a very talented dev behind it and is about to signal for Segwit (and some other updates like Lightning Network support following shortly).

I guess in talking about the old and the original viacoin where apparently they had an ico and after tokens were distributed they stopped updating the coin and more or less left it for dead.

If a new dev has taken over it and relaunched it then fine. But via can't really be called a new up and coming coin.

I may act under misinformation but even googling viacoin gives me this information from over a year ago so that's what I meant with the history.

I don't know much about the history of Via, apart from that Peter Todd was involved in the development. Romano picked up the development and started a new thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1840789.0. Everything you find in there is up-to-date .
