I carried out a system scan last night and my Avast software found 2 viruses at blk00128.dat and 00129.dat. I had read about someone putting bits of a virus into the blockchain once, is that what that is?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

It's most likely a false positive. Did it find anything else?

Most likely. People have figured out how to encode the data for a virus in the blockchain but that cannot do anything since the virus is not executed. However, you need to make sure that your antivirus doesn't delete any files in that folder (and the bitcoin data directory in general) otherwise that will cause you to need to resync.

I dont think this is a virus related to BlockChain. Try to scan with some other Antivirus. You can Scan with Either Norton Antivirus or Kespersky antivirus share the results.

Great call knightdk might have allowed that. Found this about certain bit off info in the blockchain and the thing i read about viruses was more bits of virus code that can be picked up by antivirus software. http://www.righto.com/2014/02/ascii-bernanke-wikileaks-photographs.html

Not necessarily that could be a virus.Anti Virus system's usually reports the files those remain unidentified during the network propagation.Such files are if frequently are accessed by the network which actively surpasses the default firewalls but can be restricted by Good Anti-Virus System's.Dat files are obviously malicious to system not the one's from the Core though.I think you should be safe.

0.12 obfuscates the blockchain data on windows systems to avoid problems with anti virus software. Interesting to see that your anti virus still went off.
