I have created a wallet which doesn't have my real name
can blockchain limit my account if they find out. I also might need to get loans from elsewhere and when they ask for I.d will they ask for my blockchain account info as well. Huh

when you use an online wallet they might store your IP,... that connects it to you too. but as long as they don't ask for personal info (like blockhcain.info) for name, address,... you don't need to worry. other web wallets like coinbase however will require your info to create an account with them.

if you are so worried use another wallet (desktop wallet) instead. you can use Core or Electrum.

I think you mean the wallets like coinbase and circle requiring KYC, right? Normal wallets don't ask for these things and PC wallets don't either, That's because of the exchange nature of coinbase/circle and sometimes xapo.

Your real identity is needed only if you want to convert BTC to fiat, and even that is not needed everywhere.
The fact your identity was needed means that you used a 3rd party site to hold your wallet.

You can as well make as many wallets you want installing a wallet software on your computer. Really, as many as you want.
Blockchain doesn't limit you at all.

The only ones that can/may limit you are the 3rd party sites, usually related to banking services. But if that happens, you can find another such site quick enough.

And a bottom line: the 3rd party sites is usually the least secure way to hold your bitcoin. If the amount is small, you are fine. If the amount grows, please study more and find safer ways.

There are wallets which doesn't require infos and there are some that requires real identity to secure so it really depends. Most likely I don't give any real details online specially if it's unnecessary.

I never use my real identity except on coinbase. Block chain is a no go as I just use their as a port to my main address. I don't think anyone should unless they are planning on buying bitcoin. If you are planning on buying bitcoin keep your account safe as if someone hacks it all your info goes to the hacker and your identity could be identified by them.

Do you mean that you have created a Blockchain wallet with your real ID? When I created mine I wasn't required to provide any name upon registration just an email address and a password. Have you registered an account at some Bitcoin exchange site that converts to and from fiat? If so they require you to upload real ID and more like utility bills etc. when you want to withdraw funds from their system. And yeah a fake name that doesn't match to your uploaded docs would raise some eyebrows. May I ask where did you create your wallet at?

I'll never open a wallet that asks for any type of ID. If it does become a requirement in the future then we're gonna know that we've failed. I know it has to be done for exchanges and so be it, but I also don't wanna be using exchanges if I can help it.

Its not actually a must to include real identity information. but if your gonna be providing fake information; you should probably be consistent; most accounts require certain identifaction information if you have lost a password, accessing an account from a different location or computer or you're using a different ip address.

Over time, most of these services will have to bend the knee before regulatory authorities and you will have to provide your identity for KYC/AML regulations. It's just how these governments operate

and since there are a lot of these terrorist threats against these nations, you will find that they will use that as an excuse for you to adhere to these regulations. The misuse of these services are also

not helping our cause. We will just have to keep moving our online coins to services that respect our pseudo anonymity and keep most of our coins in cold storage.  Roll Eyes

I think hardly no one else created a wallet using their real info. And most of the online wallets only needs your mail ID just to recover wallet. And afaik, you don't need any personal info to create a wallet. And still if you feel, it's unsafe to provide even your mail ID, use some desktop wallet or mobile wallet instead.

Hell Naw.

I only use services I trust with my info. I give them 100 percent accurate information lest I need to prove said identity to the service to get my money in the event of some bullshit. Coinbase for example. First off, I have nothing to hide. Second, when you understand how serious KYC is to some businesses (the fines for non compliance are bananas) you won't play with it because they WILL seize your funds and not return them, they cannot legally return them tbh.

As much as what everyone said before me, bitcoin is made for the with the freedom of anonymity. You are only required to give out your real information if you're going to cash out your money. But if you're earning bitcoins to your wallet and doing transactions online, I don't think you have to provide your real identity.

Blockchain I would think doesn't give a shit, but I've never read their TOS.  Coinbase is not a wallet, it's an exchange.

On some online wallet sites where you can buy and sell bitcoin, your real name might be part of the verification process. But I don't think any of those sites would shut down your wallet for not providing your real name.

I'm using the bitcoin app anyway.

Coinbase is not a wallet, it's an exchange.

No, it's both. And it's widely used as free online wallet. Wink

Coinbase have such policy that you should provide your real info including your real name but blockchain haven't stated that in their terms and policy. Blockchain is better than coinbase as coinbase is based on USA and authorised so they are quite strict with their TOS. I always stick with electrum and blockchain.

Well technically every Bitcoin exchange is also a Bitcoin wallet because for it to be able to hold customers' coins for trading it needs to function like a normal Bitcoin wallet as well. Now common Bitcoin wallets like the Blockchain one doesn't offer any fiat trading built-in so they don't need any of your personal identification documents while Coinbase do because the law requires them to. Personally if I am not buying or withdrawing Bitcoin to fiat there is no point in compromising my privacy for the privilege of using Coinbase as a 'free wallet' when I can use other wallets with only an email address and a password needed.

It is okay if you didnt use your real name because almost all of bitcoin user is hiding their real identity, blockchain didnt limit your account if they found out because its normal that your identity there is not real. Hmm but if you need to loan there is a section here that need only is your account here in bitcoin talk so that they can give you loan.

Using your real name will be stupid, because any average hacker will be able to link your real name with other services and they will also be able to dox you. If you used any pets names or surnames or something personal as a password, it will also be easier to figure out what your passwords are.

I never use personal information for any service, because it increase your risk profile.
