Keep an eye on 21.co, chain and blockstream as they are working on the most exciting stuff in BTC today

Yea they are really exciting, but it would not have so big impact on bitcoin just yet. The 21 co bitcoin computers are not very mainstream yet so it needs more time until it can have impact.

For now we see the projects listed in my list that are already operational and can grow big anytime. For example the openbazaar is just waiting to become a new trend, it has huge potential.

But i am watching both 21 and blockstream for exciting stuff!

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, which will follow the rules of the network no matter what miners do. Even if every miner decided to create 1000 bitcoins per block, full nodes would stick to the rules and reject those blocks.

-an autocomplete system has been added to the top address bar.
-when a transaction hasn't been fully funded, the shipping/file tab isn't shown in the transaction modal.
-unfunded transactions are hidden by default, they can be unhidden by clicking a button.
-the Discover and User views have a back to top button.
-the Discover view is cached, and no longer changes if you navigate away from it and back before the cache expires.
-the Settings view is cached.
-shipping information is not displayed in the transaction modal for digital and service transactions.
-country names and currencies are now translatable.

-anchor links are no longer draggable.
-the server connect modal has been translated and responds to changing the language used in the client.
-multiple numbers and text elements that were not yet internationalized have been internationalized.
-the transactions tabs have spinners that are shown while the transactions are loading, and a message if no transactions were found for that tab.

List of decentralized cryptocurrency exchanges:

https://bitsquare.io/

http://mercuryex.com/

http://www.coincer.org/

https://etherex.org/

Of which BITSQUARE is the closest of being complete, it will launch on April 27th:

Do a lot of people use Bitsquare? This seems to be a breakthrough in trading platforms. I'm wondering why there's no clamor behind it.

Not yet, it probably needs to reach critical mass before tons of people start using it.

Its still early release with many bugs so people need more time to get comfortable with it.

It is very exciting to see so many "killer app" projects upcoming in the near future. They will definitely add great value to bitcoin, and I think the price has to reflect that, so I think the price will go up after these things come out. I rank them by my estimation of their order of importance, and how I believe each one will add value to bitcoin.

1⟫ Segregated Witness and LightningNetwork - Larger block space, which will increase the capacity of bitcoin transaction, making room for more people. And empty rooms always tend to fill up, so I expect many new users from this idea. It also fixes malleability issues, and makes 0 confirm double spend harder so we can now build instant transaction systems with greater confidence and less risk of double spend with lightning network technology. Huge project, definitely nr.1.

2⟫ Block reward halving - Decreases yearly inflation from ~9% to ~4%, definitely a huge added value to bitcoin, and has the possibility to increase it's price. It will also make bitcoin less fiat-like, and probably larger investors will see bitcoin as more stable and established project. I also think that it will decrease price volatility, making bitcoin more stable in the long term. Huge positive and direct impact for bitcoin.

3⟫ Bitsquare - First decentralized cryptocurrency exchange, that cannot be censored or controlled, just like bitcoin. We are all tired of exit scams, hacks and inside jobs , or random account suspensions. The decentralized exchanges will bring us a new paradigm, and make trading more liquid and frictionless. This can bring a huge value to bitcoin. I`d put this as NR 1. over long term, but it might need a lot of testing and bugfixing before it can gain traction.

Other upcoming decentralized exchanges are: http://mercuryex.com  ,  http://www.coincer.org  ,  http://www.supernet.org  ,  https://etherex.org ,
                                                                    https://bcexchange.org

4⟫ Zerocoin - Fixes bitcoin's privacy problems, which directly drags down bitcoin's fungibility. This technology will ensure that all coins will be equally equal, no matter what source they come from. A huge step forward for bitcoin financial privacy.

5⟫ OpenBazaar - Decentralized P2P marketplace, a great invention that never existed before, and has the power to reshape global trading. It could work with any currency, so all currencies could gain value, but I think it will bring more value to cryptocurrencies, in majority for bitcoin. Frictionless global trading will also help many poor countries, that may already be looking after bitcoin, but need a "killer app" to start using it frequently. A huge project that will give indirect support to cryptocurrencies.

6⟫ RootStock - Is the first open-source smart contract platform with a 2-way peg to Bitcoin that also rewards the Bitcoin miners via merge-mining, allowing them to actively participate in the Smart Contract revolution. RSK goal is to add value and functionality to the Bitcoin ecosystem by enabling smart-contracts, near instant payments and higher-scalability.

7⟫ Joystream - Decentralized filesharing system. It is really helpful for small producers: singers, musicians, DJ's, and other artists. They can just host their art and get a huge audience, while bitcoiners could get a new money earning platform. The hoster and the seeders share the revenue, while the downloaders pay for it. Therefore many newbies will have an opportunity to earn bitcoin, thus increasing the demand and utility for bitcoin. It's a big direct support for bitcoin.

8⟫ Brave Browser - They will be the first browser to integrate bitcoin in their software, allowing people to spend and earn bitcoins directly. They have also designed their browser to be privacy friendly so its a good combination for bitcoin users. Although Chrome and Firefox own the market, they could gain a reasonable market share, and also force Chrome and Firefox to integrate bitcoin as well to stay competitive. In any case it will be big, however it will take a longer time than the other events, so i put this on the 7th spot.

9⟫ BitcoinJ Payment Channels - Payment channels to send and receive microtransactions, good for faucets, tipping or any other smaller transactions, without miner fees. It's not that popular and established yet, but in the future it could be a technology that can make smaller transactions less costly.

Let me know if I missed something, in my opinion these are the most exciting events or projects we can look forward to in the near future!

I'm very glad to saw this, along the time bitcoin will make a good progress and revolution. Nice list, dude. It's make me optimistic about the growth of bitcoin.

I think only the first two are of real significance (though the reward halving can't be considered a "project" Cheesy), because these are direct features of Bitcoin. The other projects might catch on, but they might also fail, being forgotten after a few months. A very high failure rate is an integral part of the nature of new startups.

I think a problem of the mentioned startups is that they are too nerdy to have success at a bigger scale. The benefits they offer are simply not relevant for the majority of users - which doesn't mean that I personally contest that they offer real benefits. For example OpenBazaar was hailed as the new decentralized eBay but hasn't attracted a significant user base yet. The problem is, if there are almost no users, the platform is also not attracting new users. The higher the effort to use a system, the worse this problem becomes...

Maybe the really exciting Bitcoin projects are not even known yet.

I doubt it, most of them are already established or are on the verge of growth. I cant see openbazaar going extinct, it is growing every day.

Once the innovation is out of pandoras box, you cannot put it back.

But can I do trades in it now? I downloaded it but I still have not installed it yet.

I think yes, but you will find only little volume, it's still not as established as the other projects since it only came out a few weeks ago.

Give it some time and you will see many users using it.

Ok I`ve added 21 inc to point 6) with their embedded mining initiative, they sure can create a lot of change with that technology. I cant wait to see many people using them.

But it will take many years for it to be widespread, so it's only 6th, as my list ranks the stuff by order of importance.

Looks like bitsquare is being featured now on reddit:

I was covering the updates far earlier than reddit, you should just follow my thread instead Cheesy

Only 26 days left until the halving and it seems like the price is already skyrocketing.

Now lets wait to see how much it will skyrocket after the 26 days have passed!

Price spike is not caused by halving alone. It is more of a combination of these recent events: fear of Brexit with all its economic aftermath, recognition of blockchain as useful invention,
chinese depositors, investors and speculators making moves, and of course halving.

Open Bazaar was announced as groundbreaking killer of eBay and from what I see this platform is almost dead.

And I would like to heard about Bitsquare some more, is there anyone who actually traded there?

the most exciting part of bitcoin is investing and earning  money without doing that much . but the most awaiting event of bitcoin is when the halving comes, its the most awaited time of  the most bitcoin users. So I guess we better get ready for it.

It is one of the exciting part but i think the most exciting is the Bitcoin Projects, with this on release bring more hype, usefullness, make bitcoin more newbie friendly, cover more area in real life application and  more.  More adoption and more new friends to meet while earning:D Isn't it feel nice if you and all of your friend speak in the same language Cheesy .

and im so much interested on Bitsquare and Openbazaar.

Open Bazaar was announced as groundbreaking killer of eBay and from what I see this platform is almost dead.

And I would like to heard about Bitsquare some more, is there anyone who actually traded there?

Dead? What are you talking about, it has more users than ever.

But yes the adoption is slow because they dont have integrated bitcoin wallet yet which should come out in the next updates.

Both of them need more time to catch on, even bitcoin only had a handful of people in the first weeks, and now it has tens of millions.

The same goes for all inventions!

Certainly not dead but definitely needs a lot of improvement. The last time I searched there I can't find much other than other cryptocurrencies.

I can see JoyStream has similarities with Storj. Wonder which of the two would blossom in the long term.
