hi all,

this is my first thread and i am really sorry if my thread was not in the right place.

any body here using gridseed gc3355? if there is any, where do you mining and what coins you mining?

i am really stuck with my gridseed gc3355, and i don't know what to do with. i am trying many pool, even is that btc pool or altcoin pool but i am not get good result because that almost every pool will need high diff, so i am stuck on this, gridseed is fine if the diff is below than 128 but for up to 128, its give up.

my gridseed work fine. to mine btc, gridseed gives 4-5 ghs, and its run in hours and so, and after that, i don't know how it could be, the hashrate increase until reach 11 ghs, and the i've got message "Stratum from pool 0 requested work restart" and its still like that until few hours and then its start mining again with 3-5 ghs. for this, i am using cgminer 3.8.5, i don't know if i am using cgminer 3.7.2.

and if to mining ltc or other scrypt, i've got 300-340 khs. but its really confuse to select what to mine.

i am buying this gridseed is wanted to learn how to mining btc or alt coins with hardware, and i don't have money to buy high-end hardware like s1-s7, so i choose gridseed to learn mining.

so, if there is anybody here using gridseed, even is just 1 gridseed, can you give me advise and teach me to use gridseed more properly?

thank you for your help, and once again, i am really sorry if my thread was in the wrong place.

best regards

me

I have an old gridseed laying around at home... But since you actually get some accepted shares, i don't think you're actually doing something wrong.
Maybe you can post a dump of the terminal text you get, and maybe which pools you're mining on. I remember it was pretty easy to setup.

BTW: i'd just do scrypt mining (LTC, DOGE,...), those gridseeds use a lot of power when mining sha256, and since it's just for your learning experience, scrypt mining requires the same skillset as sha256 mining.

now i am trying with old cgminer 3.7.2 on p2pool.io, i don't know where i get this, i just only try.

here is what i've got now

so in your opinion, better to mining scrypt like ltc or doge with gridseed rathen than to mining btc?

yes, defenately... I did the math when i bought my gridseed, at that time, mining scrypt was more efficient than mining sha256 using that miner.

About your screenshot: to be honest, i see nothing wrong, it looks exactly as it should (or maybe i'm missing something here).
About the variable hashrate: is it the pool that is reporting variable hashrates? Because this might be normal if the diff is really high... They only register shares you send, so if you didn't find a share for a while, they think your hashrate is dropping, and if you find 2 shares in a short timeframe they think your hashrate is rising.

I used to use this pool: https://www.multipool.us/ : it switches between different altcoins, and switches to the alt that currently makes the most money. If i remember correctly, they also had an option to go for low-diff coins, so you could send more shares and get that real miner-experience Wink

EDIT: fair warning, i havent started up my miner in months, so any advice i give should be doublechecked before you use it Smiley

unfortunately, i didn't know about how to calculate when i decide to buy gridseed. and for alt coins, like ltc or doge, can you give me some advice, where pool that do not require high diff?

gridseed couldn't handle if the diff is high, i mean when the diff is up to 128, then the gridseed will need more more time, but if the diff is low than 128 like 32, 64, its need time but not take too long.

You can go here: http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency
Only select scrypt, fill in the correct value and chose a coin with low diff and reasonable return.

The only thing is: it doesn't really matter if the diff is 1 or 128... It'll take a lot longer to get a share when the diff is 128, but one share at diff 128 represents 128 shares at diff 1. On average, the ammount of coins mined should be the same (on average)

That's correct, only the wattage is not correct. If i remember correctly, mining in scrypt only mode required less than 100W Wink

So according to this table, the "best" coin to mine at the moment would be digibyte... Now you can search the forum for "[ann] digibyte", find the correct thread and see which pool they provide Smiley

If you want a low-diff coin so you can mine more coins (eventough they'll be worth less than mining digibyte with the same hashrate), you could go for 42 ([ann] 42)

EDIT:
http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/?sha256hr=50.00&sha256p=1180.00&sha256pc=0.0000&sha256c=false&scrypthr=300.00&scryptp=80&scryptpc=0.07&scryptc=true&x11hr=13500.00&x11p=600.00&x11pc=0.1000&x11c=false&keccakhr=1260.00&keccakp=825.00&keccakpc=0.1000&keccakc=false&quarkhr=6300.00&quarkp=825.00&quarkpc=0.1000&quarkc=false&groestlhr=45.00&groestlp=825.00&groestlpc=0.1000&groestlc=false&blake256hr=6.40&blake256p=450.00&blake256pc=0.1000&blake256c=false&neoscrypthr=400.00&neoscryptp=400.00&neoscryptpc=0.1000&neoscryptc=false&lyra2rev2hr=13500.00&lyra2rev2p=825.00&lyra2rev2pc=0.1000&lyra2rev2c=false&cryptonighthr=1950.00&cryptonightp=750.00&cryptonightpc=0.1000&cryptonightc=false&ethashhr=75.00&ethashp=825.00&ethashpc=0.1000&ethashc=false&e=CEX.io
Is the link with a more acceptable Wattage.
So, i'd go for gamecredits (gmc) or einsteinium (emc2) if you want a low-diff coin

EDIT2 : do note that you should only mine to learn things... Even with this lowered wattage/KWu price, there is no way you'll make a profit... You'll make an estimated 2 cents worth of altcoin while consuming 13 cents of electricity!!!!!!

ah i see then. yes, i am wrong in wattage.

so, for the result from http://www.coinwarz.com/, EMD has to be the low level diff, maybe if i make a rank, it should be like this :

1. EMD
2. 42
3. EMC2
4. CAP
5. SPOT
6. SEXCOIN

hmm, maybe EMC2 will give good result, i think. digibyte has more high diff rather than 1-6 rank i made it.

But anyways, like you can clearly see in the Revenue / Profit Column, it's impossible to make any profit with this hashrate, so only mine to learn the basics about mining, and afterwards stop mining (like i did)... If you continue mining, you'll lose about 12 cents/day because the power consumption will be bigger than the net worth of the coins you mined.

hmm yes i look at your edited link, and somehow i only curious about learning mining with this ( i mean i only have gridseed ).

and yes, i know now that if i continue mining with gridseed, i will lose much than i can imagine, geezz

so is this the reason for you to stop mining? or do you have another hardware which best than gridseed?

There is some hardware that is better than these old gridseeds, but to be honest, i stopped because i also learned there was no profit to be made unless you want to put in considerable effort and invest a lot of money.

How much do you pay for electricity?

if you only need a practice or experience with mining better pick some not very active but working altcoin, join the community and try to promote it, there is many alive altcoins with small communities. IMO that's the most possibly profitable use of low hashrate miners.

But if you would install different hardware, you power consumtion will rise, and so will your electricity bill.
If you pay more than 7-8 cents/Kwu, it's almost impossible to mine anything i'm afraid.

You can try mining Litecoin with them, but unless your electric is VERY VERY cheap you won't make anything.

LiteGuardian pool should still work fine with the Gridseeds (I ran my "80 blade" units on that pool for a long time, using the fixed diff server option, I believe that one still can go as low as 64 on diff setting).

The Scrypt coins with lower difficulties also have the issue they aren't worth much if anything.
Definitely ignore Doge by itself, it's pretty much all mined via Litecoin miners doing merge mining since it went to being merge-mineable.

I never had the Orb, just some of the "80 blades" - your Orb can be pushed harder for long-term as it was limited by the mining chip itself, not by a poorly-designed easy to kill voltage conversion section that was EASY to overheat. I believe the Orbs were typically eating 5-6 watts on Scrypt-only mode (my blades had 40 chips per side and ate a bit over 40 watts per side where the Orbs were 5 chips per Orb IIRC).

The 5-chip orbs got totally unprofitable for mining SHA256 YEARS ago - the blade units were designed for Scrypt-only 'cause that was the only thing the chip could mine even CLOSE to profitably by the point the blade units were being designed.

Right now, any Innosilicon A2 based unit, any WORKING KnC Titan, or any working Alcheminer can mine Scrypt profitably even at 15 cents/kwh - but it's iffy if you'll manage ROI on any of those before the A4 based gear starts showing up unless you can pick the older gear up CHEAP. On the other hand, if your electric is cheap enough, the A2/Titan/Alcheminer gear should continue to be profitable for a while, as it will take a while for the A4 gear to sell enough to kick the difficulty up a lot (I figure my A2s will still be profitable at almost 3X the current network difficulty in the 5-6c/KWH rate range).

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!
