...
Windows x64 based VMWare Player 5.0.1 or higher is needed to run the appliance

Windows x64 based?
You use VMWare to run Linux on Windows? Is there a Linux only version?

Why does this vm require windows VMWare player?  I didn't even know it was possible to create a vm that was not portable.

Winx64 VMWare Player 5.0.x was the platform this virtual appliance has been tested on.

It may work on other host OS as well, I honestly don't know.

If you can, please test it and let us know. Thanks.
