Just saw the R9 480 announcement...

480 just as good as 390 in terms of raw power and 150watts only, and it retails for $199 !!!

This is really good timing since we need powerful GPUs suitable for ETH mining, draws less power and recyclable for a decent gaming rig!

I think in the same topic it was questioned that 480 can give 31MHs

By power consumption is obviously better

it will consume less, right now a 1070 has the same tdp and can do 27MH with only 100w

tdp is just the target the real consumption can be tweaked with the mv in play

buying nano right nano is a bit stupid with those gpu, i would wait

256 bit memory bus vs much faster memory.

480 should be a good miner card, just not "better than anything before".
More likely will slot in around the 380/380x range NOT the 390 range - narrower memory bus though faster memory will probably overall hold it back some.
It SHOULD do well to excellent on hash/$ and hash/W, just not going to be killer on raw hash numbers based on available specs.

The BIG question is going to be IS IT GOING TO BE AVAILABLY IN ANY QUANTITY - same issue that's already plaguing the GTX 1080 very badly, I have a bad feeling it's going to impact a MAINSTREAM card even harder, but hope to be wrong.

Keep in mind based on raw stats that the GTX 1080 should be a KILLER miner - yet it barely outmines a lowly GTX 970 - there's issues somewhere in ETHEREUM causing scaling to NOT happen well on any higher-end card, especially NVidia but affects the AMD line as well (or the Nano and Fury cards be killer ETH mining cards instead of just a high-priced efficient ones).

Academic for me for the next month and some though, I've found out the hard way I'm pushing my "limits of available power" pretty hard already, really looking forward to a move to a place with cheaper power and more than "pair of 50 amp service" availaibility.

I will mine the Etheruem mainly in the next year also, before it goes PoS. So I will wait for the wide memory bus cards, not the 480.

Guys,

Install third R9 390 - and that one shown 29MHs (two other are 31.9MHs). I've tried to start MSI Afterburner - but it did not started with Error message:

"Bla-bla-bla because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect".

Any ideas how to start it?

You may want to try DDU - it cleanly removes all display drivers etc. (DDU =Display Driver Uninstaller)
It helped me a lot in getting my rom mods to work for the Sapphire R9-Nanos
Launching DDU from Windows will reboot PC in safe mode and launch DDU.

Rx 480  will be the best Cool

We do not know if the RX 480 is better than the R9 390. It just has 256 bit memory bus. The R9 390 has 512 bit.

From the AMD announcement.... the 480 and 490 are designed to hit NVIDIA hard on the GTX970, 980 range at $199 price point. The new series also have better VR engine, so AMD is very specific about the mass market that they want.

I guess, it a good move, since not everyone will buy a thousand dollar GPU ! If you want to buy a 1070, 1080 now... better hold on.... looks like a price reduction soon from Nvida to compete with AMD.

it will cost $200 only plus it consume nothing, also 390 should be compared to 490 not 480, but the 480 alone look more desirable than the 390

i would not buying anything at this point that belong to the old generation, new cards look promising

how is that?  lower volts should drop power use.

Not so easy to reach the 175 mod, on my 3rd attempt now.
But on 150 mod, I managed to get a rig stable at 6xNano at 176MHs but drawing 1334watts.
I hope to get 175 or 200 mods working to get me 185Mhs with 1050watts.

Update  Note title change

From this  title:

Re: My 1 card rig for Ethereum. One day of mining so far. Photos thoughts.

To this title:

My 1 gpu now 11gpus 5rigs for Ethereum. 45 days of mining. Photos thoughts.

Original info below:

First off I made a lot of money  with LTC and gpu rigs.  Then was crashed by asics for ltc gridseed and GAW killed me.

But I kept a rig and it just sat on a shelf doing nothing. I decided to bring it back to life.

Cost = zero usd.

Some details and photos to follow.

The rig is a sapphire hd7970 with a huge heat sink the biggest and baddest around .  I can not get my hd7970 to overheat.

Omg dude thank you so much. I feel way better now that I see all these new coins with different methods. I really though GPU mining was dead thank you for proving me wrong I'm gonna go do all my research and give it a go too. Thanks man !
