Hey phil, I am having interesting situation...
I have 6x Rx 480 Rig with h81 BTC PRo... All GPUs are at same distance from one to another, but 1 gpu is significantly hotter then others...
5 of them are @ ~65C with fans from 2500rpm to 3000rpm, but the one I am talking about is @ 70C with fans an >4000rpm.
Have you experienced something similar?
Win 8.1 64 Claymore miner mining only ETH all GPUs are 1000mhz at 800mV undervolted, whole rig is drawing 900W mesured from the wall. with all GPUs hashing 24.5MH/s
thanks

it's normal, i can bet my ass that the gpu you are talking about is the one on the pci-e x 16, it share the circuit with the cpu that's why this gpu is more hot

no because I don't build riser rigs. I build four card rigs with this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138421&cm_re=biostar-_-13-138-421-_-Productmy review on newegg Philip A.
5 out of 5 eggs This has been my best ETH coin mining board by far.
Pros: I mine coins more then anything else with my pc builds. I use windows 7 pro I have 7 diy pcs built This board allows me to run 4 rx 480's 24/7 with really good results. No risers just an open build using the diypc alpha-d86 black acrylic atx bench case. the corsair ax 760 psu a m2 ssd 2 x 8gb sticks of hypernx ram. this build just runs and runs and runs. really happy with this setup.
Cons: I only have two of these I should have only used these and not any other mother boards. If you use rx 480 cards you can run this without risers.
Other Thoughts: I posted photos of this build on another website since it truly is my best etc coin rig. doing about 100mh at 600 watts. I can not be any happier about then I am . It is merely a question of how long does it hold up. If it give me a year or more it will have been one of my better purchases in mobos. It is an open air build I also have 5 two card builds Two open air three in cases. I am now at 14 gpus. well 13 the 14th is a rx 470 ordered today thanks to generalt sending me a pm to buy it. I am power and heat capped for the summer and early fall about 2700 watts and about 370mh once I add the last card When weather gets cold I may add a second four card build with the spare z170 board I have. My new build below has blue highlighting it is 1 xfx rx 480 stock setting except for power -19 on wattman It will get the rx 470 on tues

I saw you ordered the 470. I would be very interested to see if it is better value than the 480 RX.

I rode the ETC/ETH madness at Poloniex this week and made 2 BTC with 400$ capital. Too bad the roller coaster has kind of died... too bad ETC could not overpower ETH. Well, hell.... we are in this for the profits be it ETC, ETH or ABC. I am having nightmares with the USB risers, if I am lucky no issues, but if some GPU is acting up, it can take hours to figure out that the USB cable is faulty... I think your method of 4 x PCI per mobo is very wise. Is there another mobo like Biostar Racing ... that has 4 x PCIs -- it doesnt have to be Z170

This is the reason I have totally removed all usb risers from my rigs, i've had a 50% failure rate on them for the last 2 builds (4 slots worked 4 did not). I switched to unpowered risers and all work 100% now.

probably depends on the card. the rx 480 needs them, but it seems like the GTX1070 may draw its full needs from the 8pin pcie cable

i used a usb pcie riser.. mining non-stop for 2-3 years..
the only problem i encountered for that period of time is 2 usb cable got a problem and 1 riser (molex connection) got burned (only because the molex power might be loose)
i think "quality" is the key..from where i live, usb-pcie riser is a must. the spacing between the cards and creative arrangement solves temperature issues. (also helps packing more cards for a limited space)

Price went down to $129.99. I didn't see any additional power connector other than 8 pin CPU and 24 pin ATX, wonder if it will be able to supply power to 4 GPUs installed on 16x slots for a long time.
