Gay couple can’t marry, rules Chinese court

A judge on Wednesday ruled against a gay couple in China’s first same-sex marriage case that attracted several hundred cheering supporters to the courthouse and was seen as a landmark moment for the country’s emerging LGBT rights movement.

The court in the central city of Changsha dismissed the suit brought against the local civil affairs bureau for refusing to issue the couple a marriage registration certificate.

The couple’s lawyer Shi Fulong said he expected the judge would rule against them but not so soon — within just a few hours. “It goes against the spirit of the laws of the people’s republic of China,” Shi said.

Plaintiff Sun Wenlin said he would appeal until he exhausts all legal options.

The lawsuit comes amid growing awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues in China, where society and the government have generally frowned on non-traditional expressions of gender and sexuality. Read More

Russia banned spreading gay propaganda among children, and the mainstream media went up in arms. Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, you will be beheaded if it can be proven that you are gay. i think the point is western leaders and media demonise russia and putin for things that we all take for granted in other countries. most of the world does not recognise sodomite "marriage" but it is only problematic when it comes to russia or other whites. when brown and yellow people stick to their traditions we think nothing of it but when white christians try and stick to theirs it becomes bigoted and discriminatory.

The fact that I am able to read articles from Russia and the Middle East here, really helps balance out a lot of the garbage we are fed here in North America.
Not saying I take it for face value but it helps me start searching a aspect that would never come to my attention otherwise.
The double standards are a interesting blinder for sure.

The liberals in Western nations such as the United States and Germany suffer from complex mental conditions, which can imperil the long-term survival of their own nations in the long term. Self-hating societies never survive in the long-term. It is the rule of the nature. The only option is to migrate to saner societies such as Russia and Japan.

I agree with you that western leaders demonize Russia and Putin for those things because of politics, but they also do that to "brown" people as well. Turn on the news every night or hell, jump on reddit. There is a constant stream of stories of how backward "they are" and how they need to catch up.

This is very elementary. What surprises me is how the average person, including most on the internet, buy into the bull about having superior values, not realizing that is exactly what the goal of their propaganda is. Dehumanize, belittle, or de-value the other so we don't feel as bad when we kick their teeth in.

Not familiar with that angle,its not as prevalent in Canada we have different order of racism but imagine the drama will increase as more people move north for a better life. Last person on the bus works the hardest to keep the next person out and racism seems to work in that field most of the time.
The amount of spew on Putin is obvious propaganda and must be poured out for the dumb that recite everything they see on the news as fact. Its sad because my grandparents tombstones are written in Russian and yet where not Russian,but they spent many summers there for some reason. Always wanted to figure what that was all about but that side of the family is very ashamed of their up bringing and grandfather potentially working for Russia in some facet is a no go issue to talk about. Go figure.
Not sure where I was going with that just a funny tidbit that always makes me look to Russia with wonder.
