Two horror movies I watched recently that were really great were Hereditary and A Quiet Place. Hereditary was far superior though and genuinely had a few great thrills in it and not just cheap jump scares. I recommend it for even those who don't like horrors, especially as it's not just another dime a dozen, run of the mill fright fest.

 

Try to watch the Ghost Stories movie. The film tells the story of a professor and investigator of things that smelled of paranormal who had the dedication to deny stories of supernatural smells.

The Conjuring films are just your average run of the mill jump scare horrors to me. Nothing that sets them apart from all the other similar supernatural horrors. And when horror films say they are 'based on a true story' they're usually stretching what that actually means and there's very little that is actually based on any truth. Usually just rumors and urban legends because obviously demons and ghosts don't exist.
