Patrick Byrne going on medical leave do you think his absence could slow down bitcoin transsaction on blockchain?

If this happen, will it still yield to increase in bitcoin exchnange rate?

Why is this even a question? Why would this slow down anything? If person X leaves that doesn't matter that number of transactions that other people make are going to go down. He's not that important even though I value his contributions and effort.

I think the effect will be minimum. Although Overstock is one of the very first merchant to accept bitcoin, we actually needs more users. But I would say Patrick has done an amazing job promoting the use of bitcoins.

Probably not, the business still works, it's not a 1 man company, but its a big corporation with many employees.

But still from marketing standpoint, it feels like a hole in the ground. When a prominent bitcoin supporter is missing, that is always bad PR.

I am shocked and saddened he's been taken ill and i agree that he's done a lot for bitcoin in general.

but, you probably don't know this but he wasn't intending to use Bitcoin for his T0 project to put trading/settlement on the blockchain.

he said at the miami conference earlier this year that they had tested a lot of them and was intending to use Peernova's private blockchain, although he confirmed they are blockchain agnostic.

he's been deliberately avoiding the issue for fear of offending people.  even when he gave a talk at the Satoshi Roundtable last month, he implied he was using bitcoin and everyone in the room was happy... but when i asked him a direct question to confirm whether he was using bitcoin or some other blockchain, he confirmed that he wasn't using bitcoin because it couldn't do enough transactions per second.   He wasn't planning to use a public blockchain and was ignoring the work thats gone on in layer 2 tech like lightning network and/or side chains.

its a shame that due to bitcoin's lack of capacity he has been forced to jump ship to a private blockchain.

As we all know bitcoin works in decentralized environment so its development is also decentralized. What i mean to say is price is fixed by the community and miners so the current growth will not be affected by medical leave of X person in this worldwide wide community.

Patrick just opened the door for others to follow and he has been a pioneer from the start. Overstock still accepts Bitcoin and nothing has changed since he left. He needs a

break from all of this and I think we should respect that decision and admire his guts and determination to have gone against the norm. Once the door opened, a lot of other

merchants followed his lead and we are much stronger as a direct result of that. His legacy will continue as the example he set for others...  Wink

Like Hal Finney, and even you and I, we are all going to hit the wall sometime.  Byrne was a good guy who really gave it to those Italian and Jew Guido fuckers in New York who organized the biggest rip off of all time - the stock market.  He will be forever remembered for that.

However, Pandora is out.  All stocks market systems are fully looking to blockchain for the next gen trading.  Dead or Alive - Byrne can change nothing at this point.

Maybe it has a minimal effect.Besides the system is already in place so theres nothing to worry i think. Its only a perception/speculation of what will but i believe its not a big concern to cause panic.

I would've thought their retail volumes are probably an embarrassment so no. As for all his other stuff then the right people are already in place.

Personally, I don't think he'll let blockchain's services slow down because as a professional, I believe he must have at least prepared some measures for these situations. Let us only hope for the best of Patrick so we're sure that blockchain is secured.

..... "Let us only hope for the best of Patrick" ... you are right Barbara44, let's hope Patrick's health improve (get better). We should not just focus on or remember him because of his contribution in the bitcoins niche Sad

Thanks

I agree. I wish Patrick Byrne all the best and appreciate what he has done so far.
But he isn't that much important.
I would be really worried if a few of our core devs wouldn't be around anymore. That would definitely slown down Bitcoin.
