I never seen this before last night, and the snapshot happened yesterday. Why was there no accouncement before the snapshot here? or anywhere else?

I had the same impression, but when they wanted me to download their wallet, all alarms went off.
Why would someone want you to download their wallet if they are countless ones available like MyEtherWallet.
There were recently some people who lost everything after installing a wallet for an Airdrop.
With all the recent scams I am selecting carefully now where to sign up and if there red flags I walk away.

If i am new as well but the way I understand it is: an air drop is free coin given out by the developers of a coin as a mean of releasing it too as many people as possible before it goes on an exchange or is released to the general public through mining or other means. They do this to spread awareness of the coin and their concept. It varies from coin to coin. Someone else may have a better answer.

The airdrop coins can likely turn into a shitcoin as people think they are cheap (paid nothing to get them) and will choose to sell once it hits exchange. so it is hard to find a valuable coin

I made the same observation. I am following the airdrops since a few months and only one time I remember a coin went up significantly only to crash again badly, that was eBTC. Most Airdrops did not even send Tokens or the project was canceled.

Not sure if this is a new development with all these copy cats popping up. The strong projects typically already get good publicity and don't need bounty or twitter campaigns as they get hyped, just look at Quantstamp or Raiden with their recent ICO's.

I still haven't given hope up totally that once here and there you find a pearl but the chances are very slim indeed.

I think about airdrop the most common thing I see in any campaign I look it is a free gift of the people who manage the campaign, but since I started bitcoin and join any airdrop I don't earn to it but I always give it try.
