There is no denying Bitcoin ransomware has become one of the most severe threats computer users have faced in quite some time. To make matters even worse, a lot of servers are running vulnerable – and outdated – software, which gives hackers a ton of security vulnerabilities they can exploit in the future.

Over 2,000 of these servers have already been taken over by hackers, who now exert full control over the machines. As one would come to expect from such an event, any hacker-controlled web server can be infected with ransomware at any given time. But that is not the most worrying part just yet.

Wasn't it worth paying the ransom? A lot of companies just pay the ransom and move on.
Even the cops have paid ransom to get back access to their files.

This has been around for years now, and some security agencies have been using Cisco to spy on companies for a while now. This has been discussed in detail and it was even

Our company now have a policy not to buy any Cisco products of any kind, due to this.  .... Is this really Ransomeware or just another back door?

What's crazy is that their bleeding is self-inflicted, because the victims don't backup their data.

So ... from the article I understand this is BITCOIN ransomware, as opposed to the DOLLAR ransomware that's been around for years. Since it deserves this new name, are we to understand that it's more malicious than before? /s

You guys are right: there are businesses which don't backup their sensitive data and they still don't have a centralized AV console on their servers. It's simply unbelievable they are so ignorant about cyber security.

It is just a little bit harder to track down. Nothing else has changed.
Instead of sending dollars to a post box in Panama, you send bitcoins to a specific address.
