Ebay has played a great role in the success of PayPal in becoming leading payment processor.Do we need a similar ebay like site to popularize Bitcoin and make it leader in money transfer?

We have one retailer who is big on Bitcoin - Overstock.
The problem is the initial hype generated on bitcoin sales at Overstock died down very quickly.

I don't think we have worthy substitutes for Ebay and Amazon at the moment. Overstock is too expensive and the item selection sucks and OpenBazaar has just launched and needs time to fine-tune its system to offer better user experience. I think we as Bitcoin customers should have preferential pricing on goods at online retailers accepting Bitcoin as a payment option and not getting overcharged for things that can be found cheaper on fiat-only retailers.

Well eBay is a centralized system, so we definitely do not need another centralized service.... the alternative should be a decentralized service like

OpenBazaar, but I think it will a lot of time, before that will happen. OpenBazaar is still too complex for the average user. It is also only "online" and

available to others, when the store is running. This concept is still relatively new... and people will need some time to adapt their thinking to this new

concept.  Huh

Well I think we really need ebay like sites (including ebay itself), to make BTCitcoin their number 1 option, before we could see it get promoted and have any significant results. Local one's are good as well but the impact wouldn't be that much. The downside to those are, if they continue with PayPal as their other payment option, then the impact would be minimal since most might still use it and never try to go with other payments. Promoting BTCitcoin is something, but making people to actually use it, it's something else.

This is actually a very brillant idea.

But do not expect anything from Ebay fa*s. They already got paypal and enjoying to drain peoples blood.

...and Amazon wouldn't be so successful.

What we need is, another Ebay that accepts bitcoins as payment. But starting another ebay from nothing seems like an impossible task...

PayPal is a business, like any other business, the bodega on the corner. No one is forcing you to use it. Use CC, use BTC, use IOU notes.
Some find PP's services worth the price, others don't. But raging about PayPal "drain[ing] peoples blood"? That's just weird.

Oh, Bitcoin has its own eBay now. It's called OpenBazaar. Enjoy.

Having an ebay like platform to sell products online would be great but it would be great as well if they can come up with a good consumer protection like Paypal. We all know that there's a lot of scammers out there taking advantage of Bitcoin not to be charged back for consumer protection and I think that's one reason why Bitcoin is not being embraced by a lot of merchants yet.

I think PayPal separated from Ebay and is now a single company as it was becoming harder to keep both businesses profitable running side by side. Having a Bitcoin Ebay alternative could boost the usage of Bitcoin among the online shoppers that's true. But I am not sure what kind of revenue such a Bitcoin business would generate.

No we don't need eBay were good on our own.
why not? i think that it would be really good if a huge website started promoting bitcoin as it would attract a lot of new users to it that would be willing to put money into it

its nice to see that companies one by one start accepting it from time to time just like steam started doing that, i think it is definitely a wise choice and it will allow us to make money in the future
